Not Worth It - Edited

A later edit to this review was the situation which unfolded shortly after our move. An honest mistake from Xcel had them close the account at Belmar when we started up the new one at our current residence. As a result, Belmar had the bill in their name for the remaining 12 days on the lease (Nov. 18-Dec 1). This week, we received not one, but two harrassing letters from them in regards to this. The first was asking us to pay $69.22; the second one which arrived the day after the first one, upped that price to $203.24. The bill they sent me, which was the actual bill from Xcel showed charges from our apartment of $17.72 ($9.18 for electric, $8.54 for gas). The difference I imagine was money owed to Xcel to cover vacant apartments across the community. None-the-less, its painfully obvious that in those 12 days where the apartment was empty (as in void of items using power/gas), there was NO way a bill could've reached $200. I obviously have contested this with Belmar and am awaiting their response to my letter and claim.
Ammentities will suck you in here. I'm pretty sure that's one of the main reasons for moving here. All-in-all, we didn't have the disasters as some did, but we were very unhappy and are very thrilled to be moving on.
Price: $718 for one bedroom is very high unless you're paying for use of the many ammenities they have here. The one-bedroom is set up a bit differently than most apartments which makes you feel a little less boxed in. In-unit washer and dryer was a nice perk and another small reason we went here. The only utilities covered were trash and water, so heat, electricity were on you.
Ammenities: Probably what gets most people in. The indoor pool, golf room, shuffleboard, all nice, but unless you use them frequently, its hard to justify the excessive price. They're great if you use them, but if you're a working/school person/couple, I'd look for something more suitable to just living.
Parking: Minus the one assigned spot, it was a nightmare. As of this writing, there is a red car parked in a spot in front of our building which has been sitting there for months. It has been threatened to be towed on numerous occasions, but its still there. Go look for yourself. Open, unassigned parking spots are hard to come by and fill up quickly be evening. Both my lady and I have had to park several buildings down on numerous occasions because of the limited number of spaces.
Management: Not as mindless or idiotic in our opinions. They were there. Nothing great or terribly bad about them.
Maintanance: Okay for the most part. We had an issues where our doornob was broken and it took several days to fix. We also had a pipe freeze back during that very cold weekend in Feb. 06. My girlfriend and I elected to get a hotel room for the night as the men were working through Sunday to repair it. With no running water or bathroom, we figured we'd be better off renting a room for the night. I went in to the office that week with the receipt and was credited for the night's stay with no questions asked.
Location: I hate Wadsworth, and I'm really not to impressed with Belmar. Wadsworth with its overpacked, ill-timed lights, and plenty of those lights, is a difficult location to want to live close to. Belmar has its perks, but we weren't too impressed with it.
Neighbors: We didn't have too many issues with other people. Our building seemed pretty quiet and noneventful all-in-all. Around the complex, no one too bad.
Crime: We fortunately didn't have any major issues with that during our stay. No breakins, car thefts, anything along those lines. Our next door neighbor was found dead by a friend, and a baby drown in the outdoor pool, but aside from that, nothing directly related to the complex.
Overall: I think the first month was a bit rocky and left us with the bad taste in our mouth for the term of our lease. Pricewise, we didn't feel we were getting our money's worth for a variety of reasons. Nothing really impressed us or stood out. I definately think if you're looking in this price range that you can do much better. There is nothing above average about Parc Belmar, and I eagerly await a less expensive, simplier stay elsewhere.
Pros: In-unit washer/dryer, future upgrades forthcoming, juicy ammenities,
Cons: Overpriced, locations (Wadsworth), parking, small unit for big price, no real view from our unit
