It's called the Bluffs for a reason...they Bluff you to think it's a 'wonderful' place to live

I recently wanted to rent an apartment with the Bluffs at Highlands Ranch. Please know that I did all my homework on these guys first before I signed an apartment and gave them a deposit check. That was my first problem was giving them money.

My experience starts out like this:

I wanted to rent an apartment and the showed us the model in March 2007. The model is a great unit and is very convincing. I got on their 'waiting list' of which I had to pay $45 to get on (ripoff #1). Then come JULY 2007 they finally had an apartment ready for me (#7203). The apartment was the Timberline model and was a complete crackshack. We were promised neutral colors and instead we got a FRESH coat of peachish pinkish paint from floor all over the celings. Is that popular' I thought that pink walls were a big no no for most guys, but hey I guess they don't care right'
Then as we kept looking at the apartment and found the light fixture in the bathroom falling out of the socket. I noted it and Linda (the apartment touree) said she would get it fixed. Ok fine. Then we moved to the kitchen.
The kitchen had drywall cracks vertically AND horizontally, and as a Civil Engineer I can tell you that those cracks come from uneven settling of the entire building which can lead to doors and windows that don't close properly. The had been GENEROUS enough to paint the dining room, but not hide or paint the cracks in the kitchen. Just great.
The appliances were all made by HOTPOINT and if you have ever been in an apartment with these brand name appliances I can tell you that they do not work very great. But hey it's an apartment so I could understand some of it. But not the fact that the stove along with the microwave was the ORIGINAL that came when it was constructed 11 years ago. As we started to leave the kitchen we noticed that some of the cabinets and even teh drawers were installed at a diagonal angle (crooked). I pulled out the drawer and sure enough the screws in the back of the drawer that holds the guides and rollers were installed about 1/2" higher on one side. I aske d Linda again about if we could get it fixed and we were only told, "Well it's apartment construction, what do you expect". That was a very comforting comment to hear. But they knew that I already had $400 as a deposit into the apartment that I guess I would just have to 'deal'.

Needless to say for the 'market rent' of $1155 per month for a 2br/2ba was a RIPOFF.

Then we went out to the deck. We liked the floorplan because it had two decks. Well we were let down ONCE AGAIN. The deck is made out of that fancy high pressure treated wood that is green and is supposed to keep the bugs out and prevent rotting of the wood. Well the downside to this wood is that it warps and cracks easily after time. The ENITRE deck (and I really mean entire) was cracked, and a number of the decking boards were coming up from the deck itself. Most of the 3" nails taht had been installed to hold the deck were coming up about 1" and the maintenance guys only pounded down the nails you would actually hurt yourself on. Thanks for looking out for me.
I HAVE NEVER LIVED HERE, BUT I ALMOST DID. I am sorry I signed ANYTHING with the Bluffs. They told me in JULY 2007 that I would have to sign a deposit forfeiture paper and pay my deposit or the apt would be given to someone else. I signed thei paper July 1, 2007 and wasn't able to see the apartment until my cancel period had expired (3 days) and once I saw the 'promised' apartment, I immediately wanted nothing to do with the Bluffs. I am now happier somewhere else but out of $490 (deposit app fees). I called them, went in to plead my case and even work with them to get a portion of the deposit back. They did not budge and just told me that I was not going to get my deposit back regardless.

I feel betrayed. I feel like the Bluffs tries to get people in with the promise of a great apartment, and then once you're under contract (and out $400), they show you the real place, and then try to take your money from you in anyway possible. It's a shame that an organization has such low ethics standards and terrible customer service. The assistant billing manager named Kaylyn was very unsympothetic and very rude. I will continue to BOYCOTT the BLUFFS and hope that noe one else falls into the trap. I still have not been called back by Samantha Miller, our original agent who fed us this load of lies.

PLEASE RENT FROM THE BLUFFS IF YOU WANT TO BE DISSAPOINTED AND SAD WHEN YOU MOVE IN.
