I moved in in 2000, and will probably be moving out in a couple months. (buying a house) The reviewer who made the complaint has some valid issues.
positive points:
The staff is *always* friendly and helpful.
My concerns have always been addressed promptly, and while the resolutions are not always helpful, that's not entirely in their hands. Complaints about noisy neighbors (and I'm talking *major* problems here) are immediately acted upon, but until the neighbor hits the eviction point, there's little management can do. Same thing goes for the *enormous* quantity of pet waste in the grassy areas. They provide trash cans, and bags, but it's the lazy tennants refusing to follow the rules that are the problem - not the management who can only fine the ppl when they themselves see it. (which since office hours are outside the morning/nightly animal waste trips.. it will never happen)
The apartments themselves are well built, well maintained, though in some cases almost *too* well-maintained since they need in your apartment at least 6 to 8 times a year for various things. Safety stickers on windows, window locks, inspections, and on and on and on. It's intrusive.
Rent is high, but not excessive for the area, however -- be aware they WILL enforce the lease provisions for breaking your lease. I was surprised -- nowhere else ever has, but when I leave to move into my house I'll have to pay a full month of rent at *market* rate (higher than my lease rate) to do so. Since it's in the contract you can hardly complain, but be aware. You won't get a break here.
As to the problems...
The complex over-all is quiet -- but as with anywhere you live, get a noisy neighbor and your life will be hell. The stairwells magnify noise, and the front doors are mounted on springs. If ppl don't gently shut them and allow them to spring shut -- it's a SLAM that will literally vibrate every wall and floor in your apartment. Voices echo, and drunk college kids will drive you insane.
Parking *sucks* If you're not in and out before the rush - you'll be parking half the complex away.
And finally -- the trash compacter issue is completely valid. If I lived by it I'd be complaining. I drive by it every single day and many days there's a heaping mound of garbage sitting 2 feet from the compactor... but I see that more as lazy, rude tennants than a management issue. (though if they cared *that* much they'd see that the staff took care of it. Though to be fair, if I, as a tennant living over there cared that much I'd shove the mess down the compactor myself, but still... I don't pay nearly 900 bucks a month to take care of their trash problem)
It's a large complex -- not as big as some I've lived in, but large. Life in one section may be very different than life in another. Ppl's temperaments differ whether staff or tennant. My experience has been mostly positive, but I can definitely see why some would be ticked off. Honey does get more results than vinegar, but sometimes honey doesn't work either. My ceiling fan in the bedroom has been broken for 2 years. I've requested it be fixed 6 times. It's still broken. I suspect it's because when they asked if I used it a lot I said no. I have floor fans and air conditioning... it's not that big a deal to me. To someone else it may be life or death.
