This is hands-down the best complex I've lived in. The interior is nice and clean, with accents like focus walls, crown molding, etc. The porches are a good size and the room layouts are large and efficient.
I found the maintenance staff to be very responsive. They were out within 24 hours of any problem we had. If they needed to wait on a part or another service or something, they gave a day/time and stuck to it. We were also not nickel and dimed. When our track light went out I went down to the office to find out where to buy that kind of bulb and they just put in a maintenance request and they came out and replaced our bulb for us. It's not a huge concession on their part, but many complexes won't do that and I appreciate the gesture.
I understand that the hot tub used to look sorta questionable, but they resurfaced it this summer (awesome!). I spent many enjoyable days at the pool. They provide a lot of tables and other pool furniture as well as a gas grill for resident use. It gets a little party-ish on the weekends when the college kids are out, but if you don't like that, the other days are all pretty mild and if there's a problem the staff will be quick to come out and address it.
In short, the staff has been great, the neighbors are friendly and pleasant, the grounds and amenities are nice. I've paid the same price for a lot less and I got the general feeling that Monterey looks to run a successful business by catering to its tenants, not trying to get what they can til the lease is up. It is the only apartment complex I can say I'll miss.
