Well - The Pines was my first apartment experience and it was pretty excited when I moved in. The office staff was great - they always knew my name and my room number and were very friendly.

The apartments are a nice space and layed out well (except people have to walk through your bedroom to get to the bathroom in a 1 bedroom layout) I could hear my neighbors but it wasn't like I was in the same room with them.

Nobody really bothers you or really knows if you are there - but nobody is overly friendly either. I met my next door neighbors 4 months after I had moved in.

They were built in the 80s and there are days when you realize this. My door had a .25 inch gap - so keeping it warm in the winter was a beast. Not to mention my AC/Heater sounded like a jet taking off everytime it kicked on. The fireplace lets air in too. And if you are on the third floor watch out for the attic opening - not totally sealed -- brrrr The appliances are...old - my dishwasher didn't work and my oven contols were painted over.

MY CAR DID GET BROKEN INTO! Stole my car stero. And my ROOF leaked - maintace came quick to fix it but paint spots were all over anything in a 2'radius

In the summer watch for dog droppings and in the winter watch for ice patches - the general up-keep isn't amazing.

The parking lot is need of some SERIOUS work. The speed bumps are RIDICULOUS. and some of the pot holes aren't much better.

The gym is a JOKE! Two old tredmills, one elliptical, one bike and a weight bench. And is only open from 9am - 8pm. The Laundry facility is decent. Make sure you have plenty of quarters to dry - my dorm had better dryers than these!

All it all it wasn't a horrible place to live for year, but now that my lease is up...I am moving out.
