I moved into Riverside one year ago, drawn by the cheap rent and interesting loft-style floorplan. I should have known from the start it would be a terrible experience-- the manager showed me the apartment right after the previous tenant had moved out, and it was TRASHED! But she seemed as apalled as I was, and assured me that all would be fixed, replaced or sanitized. Despite my checking in with her every week, in the 5 weeks until I moved in, they still didn't manage to get any of the more disgusting issues fixed. She constantly assured me that all would be well when I moved in, right up until the day prior to move in, when she told me everything was great and had been taken care of. I arrived on the move-in day, just hours before my movers were to show up, and AFTER I'd signed my lease, the leasing agent casually mentioned that several things hadn't been able to be completed, such as removing the crime-scene grade stains from very visible areas of the carpet.To "compensate" me, they were not charging me for the 7 remaining days of the current month, saying "that would give (me) money to buy some area rugs"!! In the year I've lived there, my air conditioner didn't work for the first 4 months (SUMMER, and a 3rd floor apt that averaged over 90 degrees!), you can't leave your windows open in the summer, because people are in the pool yelling until all hours, despite a "rule" that the pool closes at 10pm (the mgr told me there was nothing she could do about that, other then put a lock on the gate and charge higher rent to pay for that!) I didn't get a key to my mailbox for the first 3 months; the new stove they installed was too large for the space, resulting in an inability to open my dishwasher all the way (!'!), my heat doesn't work consistently, despite multiple calls to the office all winter,... the list just goes on and on. The management (which incidentally has turned over twice in just the year I've been there) has been unresponsive and downright RUDE. Now, in the last month I have there, after having their new asst. mgr calculate my last (thankfully) month's rent there, they leave a note on my door that I owe more money. I don't, and it's funny, they can't seem to find my phone number to call me before plastering a note to my door for everyone to read, but they sure had it when I gave my notice and they were trying to offer me anything to stay. And don't think that I'm alone in this horrible experience-- my boyfriend also moved into another apartment at the same time, and he has had issues just as numerous and as terrible!! No "deal" or "special" could be worth living here-- check around-- there are TONS of apartments as inexpensive as this that are so much better.
