I am sitting here laughing my a$$ off reading these reviews, especially the last few postings. I guarantee you that the girl who wrote the last review, probably wrote the last several reviews because she has a pathetic gripe with the manager Julie. I lived in Tanemara a few years ago and I still have friends that live there. I was over there recently and granted, the place is still pretty ghetto, however its mainly the trash residents that live there that make it a dump. There are some serious pieces of garbage that reside in that complex.
Anyway, just to inform the former residents that were soooooooo screwed over by the management, here's a piece of advice - read your lease before you sign it. Guess what, if you read the lease you'll see that its not the responsibility of management to remove snow, clean windows or babysit rude children. I lived there for two years and never had a problem with the maintenance work or the scheduling of maintenance. I'll admit that there are quite a few rude residents that blast music all night and leave garbage outside in the common areas, but what do you expect for the rent that you pay. Tanemara apartments is not luxury, its a basic apartment complex for low to mid income people. If you want high society, you'll have to tack on an extra $500-$1000 to your monthly rent. You don't rate an apartment complex by what amenities it has, you rate it by the amount of rent that they charge. Lower rent means lower class of people.
As for you babies that were screwed over in your final walk-through, they tried to screw me over too when I moved out. Whether you think this is bragging or not, I really don't give a $hit, but here's the deal. I got my full deposit back. It was not difficult either. I'll tell you exactly what you have to do. First off, don't move into an apartment with pets. If you have a dog, kiss your full deposit goodbye. All you need is to have the smell of animals in your apartment and a cleaning service needs to come in to get rid of it. Nobody wants to rent an apartment that smells like your pets a$$.
Second, when you move in, take your digital camera and take pictures of EVERYTHING!!!! If your camera card has holds 200 pictures, then take 200 pictures. Document every corner of every room. Take pictures under the sinks, inside the fridge, everything!. Then go to the Rite-Aid across the street and get the photos developed. Make sure you have the date added to the lower corner of the photos and save your receipt from the photo development. File the pictures and receipt away. It will cost you about 15-20 bucks and an hour of your time, but that is your safety net. Anyone who doesn't already know this is stupid, this stuff is common sense.
Next, don't live like a slob. When you walk into your apartment, always take your shoes off. Use a series of throw rugs in the traffic areas. If you make the carpet dirty and you wear it out, they will try to charge you for it when you move out. The point is not to give them the chance. Do you have a garage' Then get a broom and sweep it out regularly. Keep a piece of cardboard on the middle of the floor to catch any fluid spills that might drip from your car. Don't hang a lot of picture frames and fixtures in your apartment. Every hole you drill will eventually need to be patched and concealed with paint. I hope anyone that is renting an apartment has a future goal of owning a home. Simply put, don't go overboard living in your apartment as if your never going to leave. The more you transform it to the way you like, the harder it will be to transform back when you leave. Save the overkill decorating for home ownership.
Now most importantly, when you are about to move out, clean your Fu%#ing apartment! I don't mean vacuum the rug and wipe the mirrors, I mean clean the place so it looks like you never even lived there. Do you people know what soap scum is' Well, if you clean it on a regular basis, its very easy to clean your shower when you move out. Clean your oven. Remove the shelves and clean out your fridge. Pull the fridge away from the wall and clean behind it. Clean the dust off the light fixtures and blinds. Clean those clear light bulbs in the bathrooms. Everyone whines and moans that they were charged hundreds more dollars after the walk through. I guarantee its because the your apartment wasn't as clean as you think.
The most important task is saved for the end. Get you camera out and take another 200 pictures of your apartment just prior to leaving. Make sure they are dated. The apartment management is going to do a second inspection of the apartment after you've moved out and they will add lots of little things that you would never expect, but make sure every inch of the apartment is clean and its all well documented with photos.
Lastly, you are all absolutely right, Julie the manager is a cast iron ---------. I had a great nick-name for her, I called her Chewbacca. Anyway, if I owned a rental business, I would hire that rotten crab in a second because she is doing exactly what she is paid to do, she is making that company money! That's what its all about, get the renters in there so they can collect the rent and when its time to move out, blast the renters with additional fees that they never see coming. That's how all management corporations work people. They only want your money and will do everything just within the law to get the green. If any of you did not get your full deposit back, its because you didn't take the necessary steps to get it back. If you were told by Chewbacca that Tanemara was keeping your full deposit and you let them, then you obviously were at fault. You didn't return your apartment in good enough condition. If you felt that it was in good enough condition and you still didn't get your deposit back, then you should have taken them to court. What do you think all of those pictures are for!!
You can't go to Chawbacca and argue that every problem with your apartment is "normal wear and tear". That's a decision that only a judge can make in your favor and that's what photographs are for. Its not about what you can say, its about what you can prove. Tanemara does not want to go to court if you are returning the apartment in very good condition. They stand to lose 3 times the deposit amount if they lose in court, however Chewbacca knows how how to push your patience to the very edge while she holds your deposit. Don't let that 4 foot tall gnome intimidate you. I actually almost tripped over her by accident one day, she's like a puppy chewing on your pants cuff.
So one more thought, I had gotten a notice on my door after I informed Chewy that I was moving out and the notice said that I was "required"....yes "required" to get the carpets steam cleaned. This was not in my lease and therefor not my responsibility. The carpets had minimal wear and tear, no stains and were thoroughly vacuumed. Upon the walk-through, chewy did inquire if they were steam cleaned and I gladly said no. Surprisingly, she didn't say another word about it. I was kind of looking forward to telling her to read her own fu%#ing lease, but I never got the chance.
Finally, I have to say to that girl who complained that the maintenance crew went into her sisters apartment "illegally", sniffed her sisters underwear, and went through the jewelery.... you are so white trash its not even funny. If that were true, why didn't you or her contact an attorney and the state housing authority' If an apartment complex had employees entering apartments for reasons that were not in the terms and conditions of the lease then they would be fined up the yazoo! Those employees would go to jail. Stop making up ridiculous claims because you got screwed out of your deposit. Try to at least make something mildly constructive out of your complaining. If you hate Chewbacca so much, why don't you go work up a little nerve and confront her. What, are you afraid that it might have been her sniffing your sisters underwear'

There is also such thing as wrongfully withholding of your security deposit, which many poor tenants are un-aware of. It was rediculous how spotless we left the place upon move out, and even more so considering how the place was when we moved it. We were also charged for not cleaning the carpet (when it wasn't even shampooed when we moved in) upon vacating. They charged us to the tune of $90. When arguing that there were no visible stains, and that any damage was due to normal wear and tear, they still charged us. When we argued that it is not required by law to shampoo the carpets for normal wear and tear (and I mean, there were no stains whatsoever-not even documented in the final walk through), they still insisted on charging us. We used their paint to touch up nail wholes, and they still proceeded to charge us for $125 of paint for normal wear and tear (and again, there were no visible wholes or stains on the walls, and there was no documentation of damage on the final walk through either). They also told us that too many landlords were losing money on "normal wear and tear," and that their lawyers write their agreements around normal wear and tear so that they can still compensate from it. We also took pictures, and despite all of our proof, they still wanted to call our bluff thinking we wouldn't really try to get our money back. Because I knew they were spitefully witholding my money at that point, I decided to take further action. We went from owing them money to suing them and getting three times our security deposit back, plus all of the court fees and serving fees, because they wrongfully witheld it from us. Not everyone loses their deposit because they didn't do a good enough job of cleaning the place. I talked to many other friends of mine who had rented at other places at some point in their lives, and they never had to endure what we did; nor did they clean to the extent that we did, and they still got their deposits back. We moved to one other townhome while I was finishing school, and we finally moved out to buy a house. We did a good thorough job of cleaning the place, but still, nowhere near how we left Tanemara, and we still got our full deposit back. Tanemara is rutheless in retaining the security deposits, and go out of their way to steal peoples' money. They bank on the fact that no body will take it further. Well we did, and it goes to show that justice prevailed.

I'm trying to find out who owns this business. My daughter just moved in and the apartment was a mess! Yes, we did take pictures. I want to show the owners what the managers are renting out.
