We inquired about this apartment complex, and the rental agent repeatedly called us after we expressed interest. She claimed to have available units, but as soon as she had extracted all of our personal information, as well as a $180 combination deposit/non-refundable application fee, she called us with the news that there was nothing available for at least another month and a half. (We needed something immediately). She even required us to purchase separate money orders, claiming that they ONLY accept money orders.

And yet, when we hand-delivered our applications (and the fee) after office hours, the parking lot was nearly empty, and the place looked uninhabited. We requested our money back, but we don't know whether or not it has been returned yet. As far as we know, our applications were never processed.

This sounds petty..... most apartments do only accept money orders and I know about renting because I lost an apartment from not renting right away. If you do not put down your deposit, then anyone can rent it after you leave.
