The Vintage has an extra apartment that they rent out for guests on a nightly basis. I had family coming into town and wanted to rent the apartment for a few days. I called the day before, and they said it would be available and I could have it. I was traveling and was to get home the next day after the office closed, which was the same evening my family was arriving and wanting to rent the apt. I asked the Vintage staff how I could obtain the key and when they found out I was arriving after they were done working, they told me they wouldn't be able to help me out. I asked them if they could go into my apartment and leave the key and they told me no. They didn't feel comfortable going into my apartment or even leaving the key under my mat. Uh, Hello' They go in there every other month to "check on the utilities," but they can't go in there to leave me the key' Then they suddenly needed the money for the room up front, knowing that I was out of town and wouldn't be able to get it to them in time. They were acting like I wasn't going to pay them. Uh, do you not know where I live' Could you not tack it onto my rent if I didn't pay you right away' After they assured me that this great apartment was available, and I sold my family on staying there, they made it impossible for me to "take advantage of the great views." Its just another example of the "No" attitude I got from the office at the Vintage on a consistent basis. They talk this great game before you move in, but once they get the sale, you're more of an annoyance to them than a client.
The other thing that is disheartening about the Vintage, is the apartments they let you view that are staged. I lived there for 4 years, and noticed several apartments that have their all their lights on 24/7 and nobody lives there. Nice waste of resources Vintage. Are you too lazy to go shut a few lights off once in a while'
Snow removal is an absolute JOKE at the Vintage. Buy a shovel and be prepared to wait 3 or 4 days before someone gets in there to plow, if they even do! They hope for a warm day to melt the snow so they can avoid having to get it plowed. In the mean time you get to deal with the mess. Also, if you live on the 2nd level, buy some salt for the stairs. They are pretty good about keeping the entryways shoveled, but if you get snow on the weekends, its all you baby.
Also, be prepared for them to continually raise your rent. They will NOT negotiate. Even if you're a loyal tenant that doesn't cause problems and always pays your rent on time, I guarantee you'll be paying more than people that are just moving in. They don't care about your loyalty. They will send you a letter claiming they'll let you keep living there and save you the expense of moving by raising your rent $75 as long as you sign for 13 months. Even if you get a quote from down the street at apts. that are just as nice if not nicer than the Vintage, they won't budge. If you do try to negotiate, they'll write that in your file so that they're prepared for you at the next lease signing. Ask some of the other tenants what they are paying for rent and how long they've been living there. You'll be surprised at what you hear.
The Vintage has poorly insulated windows and doors that are very energy inefficient. Expect high heating and cooling bills. I would recommend putting plastic over your windows in the winter time. They don't close tightly. The patio doors may or may not have weather strips. Make sure you have them put them in if yours doesn't have them. Otherwise you'll feel a strong draft in January and February.
I don't hate the Vintage and enjoyed living in Colorado. I lived there for 4 years and just want to make you aware of what you'll be getting yourself into. Are other apartments in the area better or worse' I don't know. Do your homework and ask them if you can talk to people that have lived there a while.
