Anyone who thinks they won't be ripped off by this apartment complex when they vacate their unit and end their lease should think again. Not only does Hawthorne refuse to give ANY money back from your security deposit(even if you clean it spotless), but they will demand that you immediately pay them over $5,300 when they have another tenant ready to move in your vacated unit, threatening to take you to court if you don't give them a cashier's check on your move out date. And even when they tell you you will receive a refund once someone moves in your old unit, they never pay you a dime, claiming that the next tenant was given more than 30 days to move in and you can't get your money until they do, which pushes you past the date eligible for a refund. What is extremely unehical about this apartment complex is that they only give you 2 weeks to move in once you sign an application, but they give the tenant after you 30 days or more if they have your huge termination fees in hand. Consequently, if you want to move into an apartment complex where the leasing agents all lie to your face, purposely rip you off like gum under your shoe, and can't wait to sue you if you can't come up with $5,300 when you leave, then this is the place for you. At a time when the national economy is hurting everyone and where Americans need to look out for each other due to the loss of jobs, these leasing agents at Hawthorne are by far the most unethical and uncaring people you will ever see. You have to be rich and incredibly naive if you think they won't threaten you with a lawsuit when you leave, even if you have a spotless credit rating, pay all your bills, hardworking with no criminal record, God-fearing, and you are combat-decorated US veteran like I am who just lost his job. You want to see ruthless business people, sign a lease with Hawthorne Apartments and you will see what I mean once you have to leave.

Why would you give an above average rating with your critique?

I didn't, the system gave it above average. Something screwed up when I submitted my review.

It sounds like you wanted to break your lease and were unhappy when they followed what the lease contract stated about breaking the lease contract. I am a Property Manager and look at this website often just to see what people are writing. I do not work at The Hawthorne at Gillette Ridge, it sounds like you are mad because you didn't read your contract and the leasing staff was just doing their job.
