All right for a first apartment

Years at this apartment: 2003 - 2005

I moved in to my 1 bedroom unit during 2003. I wanted close access to 72 and 84 and this apartment was the nicest I found for the money.

The bathroom is small and has no electrical outlet. I shouldn't have to plug in my electric toothbrush in the bedroom! Adding a simple outlet would help so much. Water pressure is good and hot water is abundant.

The bedroom and living/dining room are a nice size. The carpeting in the apartment was replaced right before I moved in, and the walls were freshly painted.

The kitchen - I think the stove and fridge are older than I am! However, the stove does keep the correct temperature and heats evenly. I had a frost problem with the freezer within a few months and I have to keep the fridge temp well-adjusted or foods will freeze. I keep hoping it will break so I can get a new one.

Laundry facilities are adequate and the washers and dryers work well.

Utilities - my electric bill is obscenely high in the winter due to the very poorly-insulated single pane windows. A/C works great but is only in the living room - you will swelter in the bedroom in the summer unless you have a good fan.

Safety - the neighborhood is clearly not upscale but I have never felt unsafe. I would really like it if they actually lighted the far end of my parking lot. When I have visitors at night it is a problem that it's so dark where they're expected to park.

Management - I have had to call management twice in 2 years; good luck actually communicating with them. They are obtuse and not at all helpful. It's almost as if they try to get people to move out of frustration! I have been told things that contradict the wording of my lease and it's really proving to be a problem. Management does NOT care about residents and will not work to solve problems!

Maintenance - I have never needed maintenance to fix anything but when I've encountered the guys they have been unfailingly pleasant.

Overall it's been OK, and for the price it can't be beat. I will be glad to move, though.
