Slum Lords

This dump is not worth the $839 a month that we pay for. They say there is free heat/water, but they lied. They charge us now for oil, water, sewer, and trash. My bathroom leaks water everywhere. I have complained to the landlords many times, and they keep sending the head maintence guy over to my apartment. He "fixed" it twice. The pipes in my bathroom are rotted and they will not replace them and the water still leaks all over my bathroom. They will not replace my kitchen light, and have told me that it is my responsibility. Our heat in the winter time NEVER goes above 70 degrees, even when you have the thermostat cranked to 90. They tell you there is nothing they can do about it, that supposedly they have 20 apartments to 1 boiler. And mind you, the boiler breaks about every other month. The laundry rooms are garbage, as most of the washers and dryers are out of order, and the ones that do work do not wash and dry your clothes AT ALL. The dumpsters are never emptied and they smell HORRIBLE in the summertime. The parking is a night mare and they allow people to park wherever they want and the people block the entrance to our resident parking. The tow truck service they have here is absolutely horrendous, and they harrass the people who live here. They will sneak around at night when no one is awake and walk around with flash lights looking in peoples cars. The head maintenance man is a pervert and several of my neighbors have many times complained about him, and he still works here. One time, withouth my approval, permission, or heads up from the landlord, he walked right into my apartment un-announced. My kitchen sink backs up all the time and under the sink smells horrible. They have ALL white walls and carpets and its extrememly hard to keep them clean, as they do not even offer to clean them every year. It's extremely freezing outside, and I would say at this hour its maybe 10 degrees warmer in here then it is outside. The neighbors are loud and obnoxious in the summertime and the kids around here in this area are destructive. My husband and I will be moving next spring, as we do not want our children growing up in this area, or in this dump. And be advised. THEY USE LEAD BASED PAINT IN THESE APARTMENTS. I was informed this yesterday as they brought me the lease papers. And I have a 2 year old and I'm expecting a baby in a month. This place sucks PERIOD.

I agree. We also will not be renewing our lease next year. And I also agree its not a good place for kids to be. There is no place for them to play, and the playground nearby is not exactly "kid friendly" as a lot of teenagers hangout there. There is no grass here either!!! My daughter stepped on glass this summer, as there is glass everywhere in the dirt and wherever there is glass. Also there is always some glass in the parkinglot. This place is just how you described it. The landlords are "SLUMLORDS". Good description. Couldn't have said it better!!!

Lead based paint is not even sold anymore. The document you refer to is a mandated form to be signed for any building built before 1978. I could comment on a lot more but I don't see the point.

I do not see how you can refer to them as "slumlords" as you so put it. If you don't like it here, then maybe you should find another home for your family. Also, the previous reply is correct. It is required of the leasing company to provide you with documentation because Brookside was built before 1978. If it wasn't safe, they wouldn't be allowed to rent here. The tow truck people are actually quite friendly and do not bother me and my family at all! They don't turn the heat up because the prices for oil are OUTRAGEOUS and cost a fortune. My bathroom had water leak in it maybe 2 times and they made sure that it got fixed, and they did a great job! I cannot see how you would complain about the staff, as they are probably the most lenient and friendly landlords you will come across in hartford county. They are so nice and courteous and it's just an awesome place to live. My son just turned 2 in Sept and I'm due in Jan. You're point? My son, fiancee, and myself are absolutely thrilled with this place! We love living here and have loved it since we moved here in November of 2006. And the maintenance people? Seriously now. They are kick ass too! They are allowed to enter your home if they see you are not home! I have had one walk in my apartment because simply, I was in the back room with my son, was on the phone and did not hear him! You learn to get over it! They are allowed to enter your home if it is a heat emergency/emergency or they got a call from you. I have never EVER had a problem with the maintenance, and believe me lady, you could have it a lot worse. In my opinion its just your hormones making you angry because it can't be picture perfect. Well, hey. I'm almost 7 months pregnant, I also have a 2 year old and I'm not complaining! I LOVE IT HERE!
