Worst landlords ever

This review is in regards to the HOUSES for rent at Kelsey?s Landing, NOT the apartment building. First of all, don?t be deceived by the nice waterview. It is pretty but it?s not worth the suffering you?ll endure if you rent one of these houses. If you?re looking for peace & quiet, forget it. As soon as it gets ever so slightly warm outside, your parking lot will be full of strangers who want to swim, boat, & just hang out on the river and in your parking lot. More than half of them can?t legally be there but forget about enforcing that. The property managers will accuse you of harassment if you chase away the trespassers. I find this horrifying with all the stories in the news about child abductions lately. Basically, I?m not allowed to tell strangers to stay away from me and my family! Just last night, I looked outside to see a strange man lurking around in the parking lot. He got very nervous when he saw me, stuffed something in his trunk, and fled! But if I told him to leave, I?d be ?harassing? him!!!

If you are super-sensitive to noise, as I am, do not live anywhere in East Haven! The Town does not have a noise ordinance, meaning your complaints about noise will be ignored, legally. East Haven has to be the capitol of boom cars. (Boom cars are cars with stereo systems louder than your local dance club?s.) All night long, boom cars driving by your house will wake you. Let me catalog the hours when a boom car drove by last night (I?m only cataloguing the late night hours, during day time, there are plenty more): 10:09 pm, 10:22 pm, 10:48 pm, 11:03 pm, 11:36 pm, 12:14 am, 12:20 am, 12:33 am, 12:55 am, 1:26 am, 1:44 am, 2:33 am, 2:36 am. I think I fell into an exhausted stupor after that! Each of those cars driving by was so loud they shook the house. And there?s nothing you can do about it. Even better than being kept up all night by boom cars is when the local teenagers decide your parking lot is the coolest place in town. You will have a continuous stream of very surly teens camping out in your backyard with their car stereos blasting. Don?t forget, sending them away is ?harassment?. And don?t bother politely asking them to turn the music down because they won't listen. Call the cops, you say' Don?t bother with that either. ?We?ll send a car right over? really means, ?We can?t be bothered.? Not one East Haven cop has yet responded. (However, if you live on the Branford side, you?re in luck! The cops will show up in 5-10 minutes! You lucky folks, you!)

To add to the noise, the complex is across the street from an amateur guitar player. You will often be forced to endure the worst electric guitar playing you?ve ever heard. He plays at full volume so don?t think your TV will drown it out. Complaints to the police resulted in this answer: ?We can?t do anything during daylight hours unless it?s deafening.? When assured the noise was indeed deafening, the policeman replied, ?Well, we can?t do anything during daylight hours?? Um, ok?' I think East Haven?s motto is ?Why bother'?

Parking is a nightmare. Why' Because everyone who wants to use the river, whether they have the right or not, will be parking in your lot. There have been numerous days when I?ve returned from grocery shopping to find I have nowhere to park. There is no on-street parking so you have to be very creative when both lots are full, which happens often. You will also be yelled at by the trespassers for parking too close to their cars.

If you need to have repairs done, forget it. I have made 4 phone calls and sent 3 emails and I have not received a response to any of them. We still do not have a proper light in our bathroom because we can?t get the ceiling fixture open! All I need is a phone call explaining how to open the darn thing and they can?t even bother to do that! We also have a very serious problem with bees and wasps. They keep getting into the house because many of the windows have holes in them (not the glass but the woodwork). We have towels and blankets stuffed in every crevice to keep them out. We also have a major problem with HUGE spiders. I am not afraid of spiders but these are the size of the palm of my hand (including legs)! I have no idea how they keep getting into the house.

Regarding the managers themselves: the woman was extremely rude and unpleasant to deal with from the beginning. She speaks to you like you?re a three-year-old (my husband?s phrasing) and is very unhelpful. The man is also a real peach. They did not have our laundry room key or our mailbox keys ready when we moved in. Also, they were supposed to install a vent over the kitchen stove AND our front doorknob is damaged and difficult to turn. These things were supposed to be taken care of immediately. Well, we waited a week before I finally complained about not having our keys. And then we waited some more. After a few days, I called and said we had to have our keys that day. After all, we had clothes to wash & needed our mail. I admit that I wasn?t terribly pleasant but that was only because the person I spoke to kept trying to put me off ?until the end of the week? (I?d already waited nearly two weeks)! Well, later that evening, we were greeted at our front door by the man who glared and snarled at us as though we?d had his favourite toy taken away from him. He had our keys and he let it be known that he hated us for it. Very charming! Needless to say, our front doorknob has never been fixed, even though the handyman looked at it and said ?I don?t have the right tools with me. I?ll be right back?? And we have no vent over our stove. I have given up on both. I have never been treated as rudely by any landlord as this crew treats us. I have spoken to various other tenants and they feel the same so I know it?s not just me.

I?m sure there are plenty of other things I could say about this horror house but I can?t think of anything else at the moment. I strongly urge all of you to avoid this place at all cost!
