Years at this apartment: 2001 - 2003
I've lived in Bigelow for 2 years. My building was fairly quiet but if a person blares their stereo, you hear it.
Management has lots of tricks to luring you in. Take their gym. Lots of great looking equipment in the gym when you take the tour, but go to use it and you'll see that it doesn't work right. They brag about security cameras. Too bad they don't work. You can't even recognize the door in the picture. When I moved in they signed for packages, however after the anthrax scare, they stopped. Understandable, but now as I'm looking at other apartments I hear that many stopped for a few weeks, all have gone back to accepting packages again except Bigelow. The problem is that the delivery people can't enter the building and will often leave slips at the entrance... but if you don't use the main entrance... you'll never see it. Other delivery people will just leave the package at the entrance, just pray noone steals it.
I've also found they have a rather harsh moving out notice policy. They require 60 days written notice. Most places only require 30. Rather strict when they hold your security deposit ransom.
Going on... Maintenance is not horrible. But many of the outter doors are falling off their hinges, nobody seems to want to fix them. I've had problems with cold water on several occasions, and you often see brown water running from the faucets.
Parking is not ideal, people from the surrounding area tends to take up the parking lot. On more than one occassion I've had to walk quite a ways to get into the building.
Lastly, this is not a nice neighorhood. Fortunatley its highly patrolled by police, but not a place to walk around at night.
The only saving grace to this place is that heat and H/W are included. Otherwise its a very expensive community. Considering the location in Thompsonville, the rents are far too high.
It definately has an "Old New England Factory Appeal" to it, but after moving in you'll find the management is just out to get as much money out of you as possible.
