Enjoyed my time here

Years at this apartment: 2005 - 2006

We lived in Bigelow for a bit over a year before leaving when my wife's father got sick. The management people were very accomodating and let us out of our lease early as soon as they had a replacement tenant.

The fitness center was a nice perk, and we frequently used the indoor pool during the winter. The interior of the apartment was great. We had an up and down set up with the living room raised up a bit from the bed room and kitchen. We had more than enough closet space for the 2 of us and rarely had troubles finding a parking spot (granted if you came home from the movies late, you would be parking a bit away).

The only negatives we found about the apartment had to do with the windows, the trash, the HVAC and the fire alarms. Because the screens slide back and forth, they didn't alway close properly and during the summer we had a large problem with small bugs coming in if we left the lights on in the living room and the glass portion of the window open. Also, the building has a central fire alarm system that went off periodically (probably 3 times during the year we lived there) at night. Our problem with the HVAC had to do with their policy of only turning the air conditioning on from memorial day to labor day and the first fall we were there, the temps were still well into the 80's in late September. Also, since we lived in building 6, the trash was a good distance from our apartment and had to be driven over.

As for the office staff, we felt that the management and the book keeper were very professional, but the older lady who showed the apartments could come off as being extremely fake. She showed us our apartment, but everytime we came in, she seemed like she was seeing us for the first time.

When we first moved in, we did feel a bit as if we had fallen for a bait and switch as the sample apartment had nice new appliances and the one we got did not, but overall, I would highly recommend Bigelow Commons.
