Like a college dorm

If you miss the college experience and want to re live your dorm years, this is the place!
Don't get me wrong. Management was never anything but nice to me and the one issue I had was taken care of in a timely manner but there are a few things you need to know if you want to live here;
1) The walls are paper thin. I could hear people coughing while I was trying to watch TV constantly and from my bedroom (because the wall is my neighbors living room) I could hear the TV no problem. You can listen to whatever program is on.
2) Weekend partying can get out of control. In the summer it is pool parties with DJs, Karaoke etc... Even if they are supposed to end at a reasonable hour they don't. You can hear people coming in late at night yelling in the halls and banging doors as they go by. It isn't even worth it to complain because you will never figure out who it is anyway.
3) Trash in the hallways. That's right. Don't feel like taking the trash to the dumpster' Just leave it in the hallway! Someone will pick it up after it starts to stink. Another place you can count on finding trash is the stairwell. Not to mention cigarette butts all over the place. A resident even put up a home made sign begging people not to smoke in the halls (there are signs from management everywhere) and someone burned what looked like a cigarette hole in it. Classy!
4) Got some furniture you don't want anymore' Just drag it to the hallway outside the entry doors and leave it! No problem! I have seen love seats, beds (with suspicious looking stains), an exercise bike and assorted things like lamps with yellowed, cracked shades. It's like having your own personal dumping ground!
5) The "quad" by the pool. Last summer, almost every Sunday, there were a group of guys playing whiffle ball while having beers there. Not a big deal itself but they throwing the cans right on the grass and leaving them there! Every Monday morning the lawn was littered with these cans. I felt like I was living in a trailer park. All that was missing were the mullets.
6) The train. It comes through like clockwork and man is it LOUD.
7) They are NOT secure buildings. The police actually came barging in one afternoon because someone fleeing had run right into building one. The doors are almost always propped open or the lock doesn't engage.
8) No AC after say ... Labor Day. That's right. The state of the art heating and cooling system cannot work together. Either you have heat - or AC.
I never had a problem with my car being broken into but have heard the complaints.
Bottom line. I'd never live there again and go out of my way to tell people what life it really like at Bigelow Commons. If you are ok with being in a dorm situation then it's great but if you're looking for something a little quieter without the loud, drunk neighbors, look elsewhere.

"Weekend partying can get out of control. In the summer it is pool parties with DJs, Karaoke etc... " Thats the funniest thing ever. I am the manager of the sound company that sponsored "bigelow idol." The staff put it on and it was a hit! Alot of fun and everyone there had a great time. Yes we did get a couple complaints and yes the cops did come. When i went to let the officers know that we would be ending soon (it was a little after 9. FYI town curfew is 10PM. All sound was off at 10PM) the officer laughed and said "dont worry about it i think what you guys are doing is great." If it makes people like you happy to complain about having fun then be my guest because we had a great time doing the event.
