Reasons -NOT- to rent at Fox Hill! RENT AT YOU OWN RISK!
From: -Anonymous-Date posted: 6/3/2005
Years at this apartment: 2003 - 2006
*They always mow the lawn very early (about 7 AM) in the morning which really stinks when you want to "sleep in" on your days off from work, and it's impossible to sleep through the noise.
*My door only closed tightly when I slammed it. And even then I had to hear the 'click' to really know if it was closed.
*The screen door that lead to my back porch/balcony became increasingly harder to open and close, and the blinds in front of it were faulty so I rarely went out onto the porch rather than calling to have it fixed because I'm lazy and value my privacy. As a result, they charged me much $$$ when I moved out because they claimed it was in fine working condition when I moved in, though it was not.
*I can't help but be bitter that this place charges you to do your own laundry. It's expensive enough to live here -
$760/mo. - and they up your rent by $30 after you've been here for a year!! You should pay $30 LESS per month for putting up with this place for so long. And, if you choose not to sign a lease, you must pay an extra $100 per month. In addition, every month, Fox Hill Apartments sends you bill for water & trash removal! That's an extra $15- $30 per month. They want to make sure to charge you for everything they possibly can!
*After I first moved in, I had empty boxes on my back porch while I was unpacking. I received a notice on my front door telling me to clean off my back porch because it was unsightly. Well, excuuuuuuse me for trying to unpack!
*Why does the pool have hours' There's never a lifeguard on duty anyway, so why does it the pool close at 10 PM or whenever' Oh well, I guess it's not THAT bad. But I wouldn't have minded taking late-night swims because no one else would be around. Also, there is a sign by the pool that says the staff requires people to TAKE A SHOWER before swimming in the pool. How weird is that'
*I don't know WHY this place is so expensive- you can very easily tell they designed and painted these apartments very hastily. Cabinets and fixtures are crooked, shoddy, and not well-painted.
*All the porches- especially the front porches- had chipped paint and didn't look so great for a long time. How hard is it for them to repaint a 3' wide porch' Finally, they repainted most of the porches. I received a notice on my door months ago saying decks would be repainted soon. Never happened. Then more recently, another notice to annouce the decks would be painted soon. Still didn't happen. Finally, without notice, they started painting the porches. And now it's chipping again.
*My apartment was infested with moths, spiders, and ants, probably because the front door didn't always close tightly.
*The guest parking section is very far away. Therefore people are always parking in places where there are signs posted that say "No Parking- Fire Lane". These people NEVER get in trouble and continue to park there. It's really a pain when they park right behind your car which makes it difficult to pull out of your own designated parking space. Jerks!
After seeing all these cars park in illegal spots without getting into trouble, my boyfriend parked in a "No Parking" zone for 10 minutes and got a ticket. There were 5 other cars illegally parked but none of them got a ticket! What a bunch of bull.
*My AC stopped working!! I told the maintenance guy he could come in anytime to fix it, even if I'm not home. He said OK. A couple of days later, I came home from work to find a note on my door that said the maintenance guy tried to stop by but no one was home! What an idiot! Since then, they haven't made any efforts to repair it so I have been using my turbo fan to keep cool. And once it was winter time, I discovered my thermostat didn't completely work either.
*They have yearly "inspections" here. Just a couple of months ago, they had their "inspection". So I cleaned my apartment immaculately, cleaned my cat's litterboxes, scrubbed the toilet, etc. Turns out "inspection" just means a maintenance guy comes in to make sure your AC is working fine. Why didn't they clarify that in the notice that said "YEARLY INSPECTION COMING SOON!" that they put on every resident's door' I think they want to put you on edge so that you'll keep your place tidy and abide by their strict rules! And as I mentioned, my AC still doesn't work!! So what was the point''
*The rental office is usually only open 9-5 during the weekdays. Well, whoop-dee-doo! I work 9-5 too, so if I need to talk to them, how am I going to do that when I'M at work' They are only open 9-3 on Saturday and not at all on Sundays. Oh and get this: This past year, they weren't open on July 3rd or 5th because of the holiday. Hello'' July 4th is a ONE DAY HOLIDAY!
*There are plenty of grassy areas to have a cookout when the weather's nice, but dog owners let their dogs pee all over these areas! No fair! What if you like to walk around barefoot! Also, you're not allowed to keep a grill on your property [meaning not on your porch either, which I got reprimanded for]. You can't store a grill anywhere in your apartment because of the fire hazard. Maybe I'm wrong, but isn't it only a fire hazard when you're USING the grill'
*Each resident is allowed a storage area in the basement of each building. But usually the bigger and better storage spaces have already been taken, so you might get stuck with one that is far out of reach (meaning a long walk with those heavy storage boxes) and too small. But the worst part' There is cat poop all over the basement in different places because stray cats get in there somehow. Watch your step! They never clean it up and I doubt they ever will. Some of the cat poop is damn near fossilized!
*Even though they're not supposed to, some residents let their cats roam around freely. Remember what I said about how my door doesn't always close tightly' One cold winter night, I came home from work to find my door completely swung open and someone else's cat in my apartment! The cat had a collar and a nametag. His name was Stinky. I kid you not!
*My toilet overflowed very easily, causing annoying leaks to my poor downstairs neighbors.
*The girls who run this place looks like they're no older than 25-30! She's friendly when you're looking for an apartment or dropping of the rent check, but otherwise, she's very snobby and rude. .
*They changed the lock to my storage basement and gave me a new key. A month later I couldn't find that key and needed to get things out of the basement. So I called and asked for a new key. I was told I would have one by the next day and that it would be dropped off by my door in an envelope. I waited for three days and finally I saw an envelope sticking out of my door. But it didn't have a key in it, it was just a stupid Happy Holidays card. Yippee. So I called to complain and so I could get that damn key, and finally I got it. But did I ever receive a simple apology for the long wait' Nope. So don't expect any swift service from the office.
*"Yearly Inspections" came again! They wanted to complete all the inspections on December 17th but I wanted time to clean and get my cats out of there so they wouldn't be scared to death by the "maintenance man". (The rental office knows I have cats, I put a deposit down for them.) So I called the rental office and they said they could push my inspection date to the 21st. That was great! Until I came home on the 17th and realized someone had been in my apartment! It was obvious someone had been in there, and it was obvious it was the maintenance guy because the jerk shut my heat off! It was freezing in my apartment and it took a long time for me to lure my cats out of their hiding spots. So they lied to me and the maintenance man couldn't even leave the heat setting the way he found it!! WHY is this place so expensive if they don't know how to treat their residents'
*After I left, Fox Hill/Equity Residential sent me a bill of ridiculous charges- for the blinds that were faulty to begin with, damaged countertops (already damaged when I moved in- I even asked if they could do something about it before I moved in and they said 'no.'). They also tried to charge me for a chandelier replacement, claiming that there was fecal matter on it. I could hardly believe it! How would fecal matter get on the chandelier' I felt like they were making stuff up to embarrass me. This was my first apartment and I didn't think to take pictures of everything when I first moved in, so I have no way to prove that these jerks are just trying to rip me off. I paid for a few of the charges but not all because of how false and ridiculous they are. As a result, they hound me with phone calls and are ruining my credit rating ever since I moved out!
My point: I would NOT recommend this place to ANYONE!
THERE ARE ONLY TWO GOOD THINGS ABOUT THIS APARTMENT.
#1: (Most of) the neighbors are really nice. Except for the jerks that keep leaving trash on my porch (i.e.: beer cans) and the guy next door who roars off in the middle on the night on his loud motorcycle. But the nice neighbors are very friendly and helpful and I will miss them when I move out, which I'm in the process of doing now...
#2: The maintenance guys usually give you all the lightbulbs you need for your apartment's chandelier for free. They will also make copies of your mailbox, storage, or apartment keys if you lose them. Just don't expect them in a rush 'cause sometimes it takes a long time.
Well, I hope this was helpful to someone. If you're moving in soon, GOOD LUCK!
