Please make sure that you follow up on your security deposit. I have sued a landlord and won. You can protect your rights as a tenant and protect your credit. That woman (Debbie) is ridiculous. It's really sad.
I wish to help all of you who have been screwed out of your hard earned cash. So this is what you should do. Go to http://www.jud.state.ct.us/faq/landlord.html. The court knows that tenants are screwed out of their deposits all the time. If you can prove that you deserve your deposit back and they have not refunded it. You can get up to two times your deposit back, ordered through the court. Please take pictures if they help your case.
If you choose to sue to get your deposit back, this is what you do. Go to the court building in NL and tell the clerk you need a hearing/trial to get your deposit back. The fee is currently $35. Make sure you read the info provided through CT courts for housing on the website mentioned above. Good Luck. Everyone who has been jerked by this place needs to stand up for their rights and put a stop to this nonsense. Get copies of bank statements or cancelled checks. Most importantly have a receipt or document stating how much you paid in security deposit. Also, you must send a certified letter to the Groton Estates with your new address for them to refund your security deposit. Mail this letter even if they tell you aren't getting a REFUND. DO IT! Get a delivery confirmation. This will cost you $4 at the local post office.
I experienced the rudeness of Debbie first hand. This woman is outrageous. It seems she has issues with certain people. I couldn't tell you exactly what her problem is, this still remains unknown. The moron cancelled my application after I was approved through their management office MCR for no verifiable reason. When I contacted The MCR group for the refund of my deposit (which they require when you drop off the application) they didn't even know that she cancelled the app. Hence, she was out of line by doing so. It took over two months for me to get back the deposit. Long story short she is a real ugly Bit*h. The kind you want to meet in the parking lot. Lucky for her, I had too much to loose for whooping that A**. I can't wait for her to meet her match. The other two staff members Michelle and Trudy were very pleasant and professional. However they will do what they are told since Debbie is their boss.
In response to the "amusing" author below. I agree that the property it self is not bad. However the property cannot run and maintain itself. This is where human interaction and management are Necessary. At the cost of the very poor customer service and people skills of Debbie this causes the property ratings to fall below average.
Best regards
