Rent from the Groton Towers Next Door

I rented both a one bedroom and studio apartment from the Groton Towers bordering the Peppertree property for about 1.5 years, but decided (unwisely) to mix it up and move into a one bedroom apartment at Peppertree. I must admit, it was a terrible decision.

This property is managed in a manner befitting a failing business. In other words, once you've signed a lease, the management practices extortionary tactics while neglecting tenant concerns. Furthermore, contact with senior management at Peppertree is impossible. Rather, tenants are referred to the same "leasing specialists" they origionally rented from who, while personable, are not qualified to address any serious issues that may arise.

On the other hand, the Groton Towers, adjacent to the Peppertree property, is a lovely and affordable alternative staffed by qualified professionals. Also, there are several other apartment properties renting in the immediate area. Renting from Peppertree should be a last resort for any party interested in leasing in the Groton area.

Don't worry. there will always be plenty of vacancy at Peppertree if all other options are exhausted, as Human Resource departments at Pfizer and Electric Boat have been notified of the transgressions committed by Peppertree's management, and will no longer refer employees to this property. If you must rent from Peppertree, do so on your own terms, and do not pay over $700/month for any apartment, regardless of size.

I live here and I like it. When I moved in, things inside the apartment fell apart, but one call to the office and everything was fixed. My stove was working fine but had scratches all over it and they replaced it with a new one even though I told them they didn't have to because I didn't really care. They normally replace the carpet if the previous tenant lived there for a year or more, mine had not, and they replaced it for me anyway on my request. I was thinking of going to Groton Towers but am happy here, as Towers is just two buildings on a hill, where as Peppertree is a lot of smaller buildings in a wooded area.

I agree that Peppertree apartments in Groton were awful. My husband and I moved in July of 2000, and moved out July of 2002 after having a SWARM of termites!!! When I say a swarm - I mean that one of the kitchen walls was black with termites. I raced over to the office, and their response was: "well are they biting you??" It was so terrible.
