It's Not that Bad, Yet'

Years at this apartment: 2007 - 2007
My Wife and I have lived in the Broadmoor for a half of a year now. I would say there are pro's and con's to all renting, and renting in general sucks. Most of the complaints about this place from other users are the same at all the other rental communities in this town and this state. I will lay out the pro's and con's as I see them:
Pro's:
1.) Price - If you catch a summer special, the rent will be lower than the competition for a better apartment with all utilities included.
2.) Apartments - The apatments are nicer than most of the ones we looked at which is all of them. Avalon has nicer apartments with w/d's, but they're more money, smaller, and the avalon mamngement is really in your face and relentless. They have massage night at avalon. It just wasn't for us.
3.) Kitchen - All the apartments have brand new kitchens, that are really fuctional.
4.) Privacy - Every Apt. is separated by brick walls which sound proofs the Apt.. You can hear the people above you, but if you live on the sixth floor you will not hear anything and feel like you're in your own world.
5.) Security - The building's are card access entry. Front doors locked at all times, unless some idoit props the door open. Apt. doors are deadbolted and steal doors and frames. Apt's all brick on exterior walls so a criminal can't smash through 5 apt's at one time like other places. all security standards by housing authority are fully enforced and applied to the building's and apartments. The building's have good fire alarm systems that are well maintained and not out of compliance.
6. Maintenance - Maintenance is very professional and will respond quickly. Other places will charge $100.00 for afterhours calls and weekends, so other reviewers shouldn't be so criticle. There are alot of things that do go wrong with the apartments but maintenance does fix the issues.
7.) Property - You do see your money go back into the property. They're always improving the landscaping, or doing some project or renovating something.
Now the Con's:
1.) Fellow tennants - This is the biggest con, and mostly only deal breaker of this place. There are alot of nice, hard working people, families and kids, ect.. But like other reviewers stated, they'll let anyone live here. A couple rotton apples really stand out amoungst the crowd. There is alot of destruction to the property on a daily basis by rowdy college students and thier guests. They break things senslessly. They throw thier trash in the hallways, break exit signs and emer. lights, break lights in stairwells, throw full beer cans at everything you can imagine. Anything and everything will be vandalized. I forgot the old pissing in the elevator routine.
That being said, management does clean everything up nicely like it never happened, and will hold people accountable if they're caught, but it's embarrasing to have guests over with all the appearent destruction these idiots cause relentlessly.
2.) Laundry - There are washers and dryers on all floors but with 14 apartments per floor you will have alot of issues with fellow tennants hogging machines, leaving clothes in all day, beating you to the machine by seconds, ect.. It can be extremely irritating.
3.) Trash Chutes -The trash chutes aren't really a problem. They happen to be in the middle of the building and can smell if the residents are morons and do not properly dispose of thier trash like civilized human beings.
To sum it up, it's not a bad place to live most of the time. Really negative reviews come from people with isolated incidents and other rental communities trying to steer prospective clients away from here with false claims of disasterous living conditions. Bad things happen at all rentals. It's worth at least checking the place out and seeing for yourself. Management doesn't really care about your problems, but show me someone who does. They're not paid alot, and for them to make money they need to sell. Dealing with your problems overshadows they're future sales. If you don't like that, call your Congressman and demand change. This is Connecticut and it sucks for all hard worker renters everywhere. Go overpay by 30% on a house if you don't like it.
