I currently live in Lakewood and agree with many of the complaints listed by other users. The parking situation is probably my worst complaint. The spaces aren't assigned, they're very narrow (my car has gotten more dings in the year I've lived there than the other 3 years I've owned it, combined). They never, ever tow cars that don't belong there and there have been many nights when I've come home after 10pm and been completely locked out of the lot and had to park 2 blocks down in the State of CT commuter lot.
Other than the parking, I have also had some problems with the windows/moisture in the apt. The windows are metal frame and tip in, similar to windows in an old elementary school building. The first winter, I found black mold growing on my walls next to the windows since the moisture had come right through the seals.
And, oh yes, the water pipe situation. About once every 2 weeks, a sign goes up saying the water will be shut off for 4 hours while they perform maintenance/repairs. It's often off for longer than they say, and they really don't care that this is a huge inconvenience for tenants. So make sure you have somewhere else you can shower, like your fitness club!
On the positive side, it's great living across from a gourmet grocery store, a post office and an Irish bar/restaurant. The heat/hot water is included, which keeps your monthly expenses at a steady rate. And my apt was renovated right before I moved in, which was nice.
