I'm a thirty-six year old professional who relocated to Hamden for work. I lived at the Seramonte for three years. I lived alone and really didn't think it was bad at all, compared to the other places I had looked at.
I lived in a two bedroom for two years and a loft for one year. The apartments were on the block on Kaye Plaza near the rental office.
I didn't have any major maintenace issues, but the two I did have (garbage disposal and showhead clogged) were rectified within 24 hours. I never had any bug or rodent issues either. They do conduct periodic preventative measures to ensure that bugs don't show up.
I felt that the only problems I encountered had to do with disrespectful neighbors. Examples included parking in my assigned spot, having loud parties, and making loud noises (when I was on the ground floor). As for the parking issue, I simply had the car towed or called the police about the noise. In the three years I lived there, I only has parking issues twice and noise issues three times. There are some Quinnipiac college students who live there, so expect a party here or there.
My recommendations, if you choose to live there are to live on the second floor, since you never know how many people may be living above you. Also, a loft is cheaper than a two bedroom, but still gives you the extra room you may want (even though the ceiling is a bit lower).
I never had a problem with the office staff. Linda was very helpful when I switched apartments. Amy always answered any rent questions. Pam seems a bit rough around the edges, but fair. You have to remember that they are running a business and the rules were clearly stated in the documents you signed. They aren't flexible about the rules because if they bend them for you, they have to bend them for everyone.
When you move in, document any problems with the apartment, and give the form back to the office. When you move out, clean the apartment. Rent a carpet cleaner at Home Depot, clorox the refrigerator, and clean the mini-blinds. They will charge you if the kitchen floor is dirty, if the miniblinds are broken or dirty, or if there are stains on the carpet.
If you are a responsible adult, you shouldn't face any issues living here.

It's not a horrible place to live. But the people who work in the office are completely incompetent. Several times they have sent out notices explaining that we won't have water for a day because of maintenance, and yet after preparing ourselves 3 times to not have water we ended up actually losing water on a day we weren't notified for. Which completely sucked. I made myself wake up two hours earlier on those three days just to take a shower before class for apparently no reason. The one day they did shut the water off it was too late for me to get ready for work and for school. Totally ruined my day. Other than that the place is alright. I haven't really had any other problems other than the fire.
