My boyfriend and I have lived in a studio apartment (with a wall) for about 2 years. During the apartment hunt we lived over an hour away from the apartment, were working full time and getting ready to begin our junior and senior years of college. The rental agent razzled and dazzled us, assuring us that the building was quite difficult to get into and that she would consider us graduate students in order to give us a leg up on the competition. We were shown a beautiful studio apartment with tiles and brand new ... well everything. This was supposed to be the unit we would move into. Suspiciously, about two weeks before we were scheduled to move we received a phone call from our agent. She asked... pressured us to agree to move into another unit in the same building. She promised us that the second unit's condition was identical in every way to the first apartment we had seen. We reluctantly agreed being that we were down to the wire.
When we arrived in the rental office the day our lease was to begin we were told that we had to wait to obtain our keys. We waited for over an hour... the apartment was not ready. Luckily we had not rented a truck for moving that day.Unfortunately upon entering our new home we found that it was still not ready! First, the paint was still wet and gobs of some kind of glue were on the vinyl (not tile) floors. The drawers in the cabinets fell right out (I still don't use my silverware drawer... despite asking several times for it to be repaired and after countless bruised toes later). Next, we found that we couldn't open the bathroom cabinets because they had been installed improperly. Several days later we realized that the sink drain was also not installed correctly... it still does not drain effectively. There was also a gaping hole in the living room wall where a cable outlet should have been and an oh so stylish cable cord running through it. The cable cord ran through the hole, under our kitchen sink, and through the middle of our kitchen. How lovely! My very first apartment... I was in tears.
It has been two years, four fires, and two gas leaks later we are finally in the position to move. You may be asking yourselves "why didn't they move out if it was so bad'" or "It seems so nice." We had spent so much time and money moving our belongings, not to mention our sizely deposit, that we couldn't possibly afford to move. We kept hoping that all of our misfortune here had been the result of some strange fluke. Perhaps we had just been unlucky. We thought that it might get better but it only got worse. The worst part was when our friend was sitting for our cat while we were visiting family out of state. She slept over one night and the next morning her car was gone, it had been stolen right out of the spot. While doing a favor for us her car was taken for a joy ride and damaged to the tune of $300.00.
Here is the deal if you plan on living here, expect the following: monthly visits from the orkin man (I've heard horror stories about bed bugs which management will do next to nothing about), finding somewhere else to park you car for the lot to be sealed or some other crap (assigned spaces especially), inconsiderate people parking in your spot, an overzealous landscaping crew as your morning wake up call, fires, gas leaks (which they will not tell you about... I hope that you all have a great sense of smell or expect to be sitting in apartments filled with gas), an outer door that is broken more than it is working (this is also true of the gate for the "gated community" portion of this lovely complex), and perhaps most recently a friendly neighborhood dumpster skunk... I hope you enjoy its the intoxicating aroma of skunk juice.
There are other apartments right on this street, that are much better. I hope that all of you reading this will fair far better than I have. I wish that I had known about this website before moving. Trust me it was, is and will still be that bad for anyone moves in here. I don't blame the rental agents as much as I do the management company. Their job is to give us all less for more. Before moving here please check out the other apartments that are available: Chestnut Hill, Hamden Ridge, Dogwood Hills, Whitewood ponds... they have much better apartments and some cost around the same as the Seramonte. If you must... absolutely must live here because of... well there is absolutely no alternative... please I beg of you to get some renter's insurance.

As one of the people who had bedbugs in 609 and was there for 2 fires, I hear you and agree wholeheartedly.
