Not a good buy

This place is far too expensive for what you get. I have a one bedroom, 560 sq ft, apt and pay $785/mo for two cars to park. Parking on the street outside the buildings is limited so you often have to park in one of the lots a block away, unless you're willing to pay 25-30 bucks a month to park in one of the lots next to the buildings.

The city is another problem. The Hartford PD likes to come down here and ticket all cars, even those that are parked legally. It's only happened a couple of times, and the management has no control over this, but it is highly annoying. I've also had my car towed because the city had to do work one afternoon and instead of giving people 24 hrs notice or something of the like, they came in, towed away 5 or 6 legally parked cars, all at the owners expense. I tried fighting this but the city won't play fair, if you're in the right, you'll just never hear from them.

If you can help it, you should avoid living in Hartford altogether.

Back to the community, it is a nice place in that it's like a little community set apart from the rest of hartford (Clemens place owns all but a few buildings on nearly 4 blocks of land). When I first moved in rent was 765/mo so they wanted a deposit of 765 as well. They offer free storage, but you have to call the office and have them open it for you and they stay until you're finished so you often feel kinda hurried (storage is in the basement of the buildings and not always in the same one you moved into, ours is in the building across the street). The staff has always been very friendly but they can take awhile to fix problems that you bring to their attention, sometimes weeks. Heating sucks, it's those baseboard heaters and when it's really cold outside you need to use an additional space heater or turn on all your stove burners to keep the place comfortable. No central air, they have window units, one to an apartment. The carpeting and paint is cheap, but it was new when we moved in. If you brush your table against the wall it takes the paint right off; really cheap paint. There is no pet deposit, which was really nice, but any damages caused by your pet will likely be taken from your obscene security deposit.

Back to the staff, when they tried to raise our rent last year (instead of 785, I would be paying 810 now) I went to office and talked to them and they comprimised with me for a final rent amount of 785. This was up from 775, but better than the proposed 810/mo.

Security really is useless, which is sad because one of the reasons we moved here was so that my fiance could get an escort from parking to the building if she ever had to park far away late at night, but they're never available.

I guess thats it, it's all about what you're looking for. What I wanted might not be your cup of tea and then some. If you have any questions send an e-mail to me.
