Urban Living at It's Loudest

The noise situation from the bars downstairs gets worse and worse every day....2 bars with their back doors wide open with very loud music blaring into the backyard until closing time, then the clanking of hundreds of bottles being transferred to garbage cans until 2 or 3 in the morning (that starts again at 7 or 8 on weekend mornings). Drunk people from the bars congregate in the back yard in an area that is supposed to be for resident access only. That area is now a smoking parlor, urinal, and a great place to fight. The bar employees are not at all receptive to requests to keep their back doors shut. That alone would solve the noise problem and make the back yard much safer.
Urban noise is present, but expected---trains, sirens, motorcycles, etc. blend right in after awhile. It is the bar noise from hell, seven nights a week, every week, that you never get used to. Panhandlers on Union Place are omnipresent and can get quite aggressive-overall annoying, but harmless. There have been incidences of violent crime in the neighborhood, but it has not been random.
The apartments are beautiful, the neighbors are friendly, management is fine, laundry facilities are exemplary....too bad the surrounding environment has deteriorated so badly in the past 6 months (it definitely was not like this when I moved in).
Good, reasonably priced parking is 2 blocks away. I wouldn't park in the street....
I hope the atmosphere improves because I really do not want to leave the building. Unless you can get by with 4 hours of sleep a night, or if you work nights, I wouldn't recommend Union Place apartments at this time.
