You get what you pay for....

Years at this apartment: 2007 - 2008

Heat:
- Steam heat is extremely loud for about a month at the beginning of the winter. After that it can be difficult to control because if someone above or below decides to open or close their heat you suddenly get affected by it.
- However, it is free and stays fairly comfortable most of the time.

Electric:
- There is one electric outlet in each room, so I have extension cords running everywhere.
- I can't use 2 appliances at the same time without killing the circuit....these include a/c, microwave, toaster, hair dryer, iron, and blender. And the circuit breaker is in the basement, which is not a pleasant place to be.

Water:
- Get used to being jumpy in the shower. You have to get accustomed to listening for a sudden change in water pressure due to someone in the building turning on a faucet or flushing a toilet. You then have 1 or 2 seconds to get away from the water before it gets really hot or cold. It returns to normal quickly, but it's still annoying.
- Hot water is free and there is plenty of it.

Noise:
- It comes and goes, but you can hear most conversations through floors, ceilings, and walls pretty clearly if you're in a quiet room.
- Most neighbors are respectful and don't play music for very long or very late.

Parking:
- Lot is very tight and I don't think I've ever seen them tow a car.
- You only get 1 spot and have to pay for the garage for a 2nd car.
- It's free off-street and well-lit parking.

Landlord:
- The management office consists of one woman who is probably used to dealing with deadbeat tenants just judging by the way she talks to people. She's rude and does not send the maintenance guys out unless you have a flood in your apartment.
- The owner of the building is only concerned about profit....enough said.
- The owner's son and daughter-in-law are extremely nice people to work with....when you see them
- The maintenance guys are awesome! They're usually around the building almost every day and if you have a problem just tell them and they'll take care of it. They even will help you move stuff in and out if you're nice to them.

I think a one bedroom in this place is worth closer to $550 a month given all the problems that I have to put up with. Next year I plan on paying the extra $50 or $100 a month and just getting a place in one of the mill buildings down the street.
