South Adams

For the four of us students with little credit looking to just get a place to start, South Adams gave us the chance most places wouldn't. Despite having a high rent with no utilities covered we took it in good stride.

However for the money, it really wasn't all that worth it. Having a unit right above the front door meant never opening my window for air at night, lest I listen to people talking/screaming/whatever outside, cars, and maintainence crews in the morning. It also meant I felt the front door open everytime someone entered. The noise level in the place isn't terrible, but I have some sort of circus above me that insisted on playing loud music every Saturday morning and jumping/running/banging around. Now I heard babies crying up there. The hallways always smell of either smoke, bad oder, or food, the latter I can handle but usually it's smoke and bad smells especially in the main stairwell since that back door is used constantly for smokers.

The fitness center is very nice, and usually unoccupied and clean. The pool is nice, but always has a good number of kids and people.

Parking is absolutely the worst part of this place. There are only two small lots, and one small row of visitor parking. In the winter you won't find a spot after 8pm. Don't park on the street, the MPD will ticket you. If you don't have a sticker, don't park in the lots after 7, someone will rat you to Whiteys and you'll be towed. They did it to my girlfriend's father and he was the co-signer on our lease, it cost him 110 to get his car back. In the summer it's a bit easier because there are more spaces open and street parking, but it still sucks.

Management is fairly friendly and easy to get along with. I've had no trouble getting what I need done by maintainence when I need it. They do have the habit of walking in without notice though.

Overall I would recommend this place to anyone who needs a good place to start in a decent area of Manchester. If you're looking for cheaper or nicer though, there is more out there.
