On average, 4 CARS per WEEK are stolen from Northwoods Apartments' parking lots, and the surrounding areas!

Years at this apartment: 2005 - 2005

I moved into Northwoods Apartments in Apr. 2005, and throughout the five months that I lived there (until Aug. 2005), it was the worst experience of my life. My car was broken into just six days after moving into Northwoods Apartments. Upon reporting this to the local police, I was told (by an officer) that; on average, there are four cars per week reported as stolen from Northwoods Apartments' parking lots and the surrounding areas. And that's just what's been reported! I eventually discovered (through investigation) that it was the residents of an area called "the highlands"; a frighteningly ugly, densely-populated little neighborhood (sitting at the top of a hill not more than a quarter of a mile from Northwoods Apartments) that looked like it had been airlifted out of an inner city and dropped in rural CT) who're responsible for all of the car theft in the immediate surrounding area. And the police knew it too! But did nothing of course! What a joke! The carpet that had been laid one day prior to moving day made the bottoms on my feet black from walking on it. The toilets wouldnt flush! A gutter broke and was left hanging for months! It could have completely separated at anytime and fallen onto one of the many tenants who were constantly hanging around under my bedroom window (walking their LARGE dogs and allowing them (the dogs) to defecate right outside in the courtyard (and then NOT even bother to scoop it up and throw it away)!!! Ahhhhh!!!!! No one ever cleaned up after his or her pets! One day, I dove into the pool at Northwoods Apartments, and I was nearly blinded by the high levels of chlorine present in the pool water that maintenance had failed to warn anyone about. I was told they were in the process of cleaning the pool (and that there were high levels of chlorine present), but they failed to rope off the area around the pool, OR EVEN PUT UP A WARNING SIGN NOT TO SWIM! Then they (maintenance) laughed at me when they told me that. I even had teenaged solicitors come to my door once, telling me about some party. I sent them away, trying to talk some sense into them, and they were rude! Imagine that! They come to my door, soliciting me at six oclock at night, and then they insult me when I try and explain to them that they shouldnt be soliciting me at my home! Horrid cooking odors (from other tenants) would fill my apartment almost everyday! God only knows what they were cooking! Probably road kill! There were robberies in the area all the time! There were no delis or markets in the surrounding areas (Cromwell, CT)! Just a Super Stop & Shop & an A&P (in Middletown, CT)! It was horrible! Id get sick from eating food that had been prepared in the food stores in those areas! There were no small or locally owned businesses anywhere in the area it seemed! Just chains everywhere! Wal-Mart, K-Mart, Home Depot; it was like a Corporate Disneyland! I once saw someone walking the street (Berlin Rd., Cromwell, CT) in a hot-dog suit! Waving to oncoming traffic! I almost had an accident when I saw that! Every now and then, Id see indigents emerging from the woods in store parking lots (A&P on Washington Street in Middletown). Degenerates rummaging through dumpsters in the parking lots of Northwoods Apartments. It was beyond frightening! Id never seen such lowlifes before! Tenants would barbeque practically every night on their decks! The stench of charcoal and lighter fluid was always in the air! It was like a State Park! Camp Northwoods!!! And that reminds of Wadsworth Falls State Park in Middletown, CT! Once I went out for a walk there and, out of my peripheral vision, I saw a half-naked man in camouflage shorts hiding in the woods. Prowling! He was following me! This stuff never happened where I used to live in Westchester County, New York!
The only good thing about living at Northwoods Apartments was that it was usually QUIET. What I mean is that I hardly ever heard other tenants when I was in my apartment. But lets get back to the catastrophes! The hot-water heater (which was in a closet next to my bedroom-what the heck is that about'!) sprung a leak one day and there was a huge flood in the utility closet. It must have happened a long time before I actually discovered it. Reason being, the mold that had grown as a result of the moisture had eaten through the wall right into the closet in my bedroom! BLACK MOLD! There was even a clause in the lease that said if BLACK MOLD was discovered in your apartment, youd be moved to another apartment within the complex free of charge. So obviously, something like this had happened (probably MANY times) before! Enough times so that theyd put a reference in the lease about it! What the hell is wrong with this place'! The BLACK MOLD had been making me sick for a period of time, and I didnt even know it was mold making me sick until I discovered it. I immediately (upon discovering it) terminated the lease and got that hell out of that awful place! Then they tried to tell me that I needed to give them two-months notice to move out. No other apartment complex in the known universe does anything like that! Everything is on a one-month notice basis! They did that specifically to keep people from moving out of AIMCO-managed apartments. If you have to give them two-months notice and then give another complex (that youre moving to) one-month notice, you cant ever leave! I refused to pay any of their ludicrous concession fees ($2,000 to terminate the lease & move out'! I dont think so). Boy, were they (management) afraid of me! They didnt even argue! I think they were afraid Id sue the pants off of AIMCO for the BLACK MOLD! They even agreed to pay for my medical bills with no argument at all! Oh, and the mail situation! Its been almost a year since I moved out of Northwoods and back to my REAL home in Westchester County, New York (where Id lived for ALL 21 prior years of my life before I moved to Northwoods Apartments in Middletown, CT), so bear with me. The horrid memories are all coming back slowly as Im writing this. Management (at 1 Dove Ln) would actually sign for and keep my packages (and all other tenants packages) at their office, so Id have to walk all the way (from 144 Dove Ln) to the office to pick up my packages. How ridiculous! One day, the rental agent actually sighed when I walked through the door to the rental office to collect my packages! She sighed a Post Office/DMV type of sigh! A deep sigh! Cause shed just sat down I suppose! They have the nerve to sigh at me as if Im inconveniencing them by walking all the way up there to pick up my mail when it is AIMCO that instituted that stupid policy in the first place! She (the rental agent) even had chocolate all over hands one day when I walked into the office to collect my mail. How unprofessional! I suppose she sits in that office all day long and just gorges herself on chocolate while waiting for tenants to come in to pickup their mail, so she can sigh at them! And the maintenance people (you know, the ones that ride around in those goddamn golf carts all day (never going anywhere); they were clueless! One even cut his hand and started bleeding profusely in my living room while trying to replace the screen door. What a tool! They all looked like Cretans too!
