Be careful -- The staff is misleading.

This is my second lease with this community and I will not renew for a third. I would consider the apartment adequate, but there are some fairly serious negative qualities you should know before signing a lease with this property. The leasing staff WILL NOT ADMIT these issues even if questioned directly about them.
Parking--Depending on where your unit is, parking is either adequate or horrendous. Aim for the "lower circles" of buildings if you have a choice. Parking is lot not well lit in some areas, and it is littered with deep potholes and annoying speedbumps.
Noise--Sound and vibration carries extremely easily between the ceilings and floors. This can lead to almost constant disturbance if you happen to have noisy neighbors. Sound travel through walls is less of a problem. Also, make sure you test the apartment fan--mine is extremely noisy and is right outside the bedroom.
Safety--I've seen numerous vehicle vandalism including break-ins and slashed tires during my time here. Also, fires are a serious problem. These apartments ignite like a book of matches. Two catastrophic fires in as many years.
Construction--Structures were carelessly built (there isn't a straight pair of lines in my apartments. Floors are weak and creaky. Fixtures and doors are cheap. Windows bleed heat readily in the winter. Appliances are ancient, but usually functioning. Also, upkeep that is performed between residents (new paint, carpet, etc.) is done quickly and carelessly.
Maintenance--Maintenance team is very friendly, and they respond pretty quickly to service calls.
Office staff--Friendly, but take *everything* they say with a grain of salt. They will not give you the full story about these apartments.
Others--Middletown public water is awful--the worst I've had to live with. Expect dry, irritated skin and scaling to be problems. This is not a strike against Northwoods, but it is something potential renters should know.
IN SUMMARY:
Be very careful when choosing to rent these apartments. Ask a lot of questions, and most importantly, insist on seeing the exact unit you will be leasing. If work needs to be done prior to move-in, get it in writing. The staff will not let you out of your lease for any reason whatsoever (besides those they are required by law to honor) without charging a large fee. Read the lease carefully. Overall, if you do your homework, you will not be surprised by Northwoods. For the rent they ask, however, you can do much better, so look around the area.
