Way overpriced

Years at this apartment: 2001 - 2003
I lived here for two years and that was long enough. It was convenient becasue it was right between work and school (CCSU), but now I've graduated. As with the other reviews, the management is horrible. They show you the model - which looks like it's updated every month - and the apartment you actually get is completely different. I was told I couldn't see it until the current tenants moved out, which was a week before my old lease was up, so I basically took it on faith. Do not expect fast response from the office. It took nearly two weeks to get a new key card for the gym. First I was treated like an idiot, as they actually walked me over to make sure I was using it correctly. All you do is wave the card in front of a black wall unit for god's sake! We moved in and there were several black grease spots on the living room carpet. I didn't want the "upgrade" apartment so I was prepared for the 1970's kitchen decor. But the wood grain stickers on the sides of the cabinet doors were peeling off. I opted to pay the extra $65 for the balcony which was a mistake. We used it once, because the nails securing it to the brick are coming loose on all sides. Luckily we only had a couple of other small maintenance problems that were fixed within a day or two. They are finally in the process of renovating the hallways and common areas - probably due in no small part to these bad reviews - but as long as someone (namely the parents of college students) is willing to pay the rent the apartments themselves won't change. I had the same brown water issue - that other reviewers mentioned - for several weeks on more than one occassion. The office said it was safe to drink and it happens from time to time. I switched to bottled water for drinking anyway. Call me crazy. Ours cars have been fine, but 2 of the tenants who've lived across from me moved out because someone tried to steal their cars (smashed windows, damaged steering column, etc). This an epidemic due to no 24-hour security, and parking that is bordered by woods with no lighting. I guess the nearby highways is attractive to thieves, too.
