Overpriced, but nice

Years at this apartment: 2005-01-01 - 2007-01-01
When I first moved to New Haven, I looked at a lot of apartments in the area, but found The Eli to be the best for a variety of reasons.
First and foremost, I love the building itself.
It has a lot of character - art deco style.
Second, I love the location - right in the heart of downtown.
I love walking to work in the morning and not dealing with a commute.
Next, the apartments themselves have a lot of character as well.
Hardwood floors, high ceilings, large windows, marble kitchen countertop, marble floors in the bathroom and kitchen, and stainless steel appliances.
I love the look.
Additionally, the rooftop is a nice place to hang out when the weather is nice.
My main problems are 1) absolutely NO countertop space or storage space in the bathroom; 2) minimal storage space in the apartment - small closets; 3) the European washer/dryer in one does not wash very much and is OFTEN broken; and 4) the rent jumps up every year, and is NOT cheap, rather a bit overpriced.
I've read some of the other reviews and yes, there are more students now but I've never had too much problem with noise, a party here or there, but they don't really last very long.
And, I read the negative review about Erica.
Since day one, Erica has been super nice and helpful.
She's always been very professional and responsive to any problems I might have.
If she is just out of high school, she is very impressive and is probably going places in life.
Lastly, I read the reviews about parking and it is a pain in the rear.
I've put my name on the list for the parking lot countless times and I've never been called for a spot.
However, I'm not really sure I'd want to park there in the winter anyway since it is not covered and doesn't get plowed.
I park a half a block away at Century Towers for an extra $148 and get covered parking.
Really, for the price you pay at The Eli, I think you should get free parking, but I'm not really complaining about that.
You sort of expect that living in the heart of a city.
In summary, yes, there are problems with the place, but I think the benefits outweigh the problems.
