Bleah! Avoid this overpriced, underhip hood

We are what they call "market rate renters," ie, people paying $1400 for a 2 bedroom, with parking an additional $50-90/month). The VAST majority of our neighbors are "Section 8" renters paying much less for the same apartments, including free parking. Apartments are clean and nice, but very small for the money. The maintenance crew is responsive, but there is no 24 hour concierge (though they advertise one) and 'hood is more ghetto than trendy. We lived in NYC for 10 years (Brooklyn for 4). This place is less up-and-coming and more rundown-and-lacking. Trust us, it is definitely not worth it for anyone paying full tilt, especially as for us "market rate renters" these rents are among the most expensive in New Haven.
