the POSITIVES:

huge apartment (I currently live in a 1 bedroom but had lived here in a 2 bedroom several years before - both are oversized - more than enough room!)

they allow pets - including big dogs

good sized deck - very nice to use in the summer months

neighbors - most are very friendly

location - at the end of the road, right near a grocery store, the post office, CVS, etc. very convenient

pool - large and kept up pretty well...

heat and hot water included in rent... but more on that in...

the NEGATIVES:
maintenance is shoddy at best... I've had to call multiple times, often over a period of 1-2 months, to get simple things fixed (i.e. lights that were broken, screen door that wouldn't shut). The staff can be very rude at times, other times they are as nice as can be - assure you it will be fixed. However, you come home to find - surprise - it wasn't - and they get really annoyed with you when you call back to follow up!

heat - back to the maintenance. I had a huge problem with my heat last winter. It was feast or famine! They came to repair the thermostat three times but it never worked right - at one point, my apartment was 57 degrees and dropping (we were looking at single digit temperature night) - called the emergency line to have them fix it - was SCREAMED AT by the property manager who told me I had to fill out a work order! Only after I threatened to call the health department did they send someone over and it still took three hours (mind you, all the maintenance people live on site!) Then after he supposedly fixed it, the heat never shut off - it was 95 degrees in here for a month (again, they don't respond quickly - he showed up one night at almost 11 pm!) Finally, the guy admitted he couldn't fix it and showed me how to override the problem from the basement - so I spent the rest of the winter running up and down to the boiler room turning the heat on and off as needed, while I ran fans in the windows to cool off the place. You'd think if they are paying for the heat, they'd want to fix this once and for all!

Parking - not bad in the summer when many people can park on the road that runs in back of the place; terrible from November - April when the town will not allow you to park on the street overnight. Usually end up hoofing it from the farthest spot in the lot! And the lighting out there is pretty sketchy. x-2PE3sjUIIeetAHoKOk

I used to live there and I have to agree, the staff are most times extremely rude.
The heating problem I had to deal with, since little help was forthcoming.

Pets are allowed, and this is great.

From: Abused Tenant Had to move out after 1 year.Management is horrible horrible horrible horrible, and all Family. They are RUDE when you call the office, and swear like troopers outside on grounds.Heating was horrific in winter, down in the 50's. I had to buy my own heater. HA!! Management was dumb enough to tell me to turn on my oven.Good luck if you need the smallest thing fixed, Just don't hold your butt.Management and brown nosing maintenance are pathological liars, so keep a notebook near by along with public health phone number. Much Happier in a reliable well managed new place with courteous staff.

I am currently a tenant at Northwood. Although I like my apartment, there are some drawbacks. The deck is rotting, and I am concerned about safety. The management began replacing decks on some buildings last year, but they still have a long way to go. They had to nerve to increase the rent more than $100 per month over last year's rate. The other complaint I have is about the air conditioning. You have to buy your own unit, which can be placed in the sleeve (located in the living room). You can't get the bedrooms cooled off. My neighbors have the same problem. Because the bedroom windows are casement style, you have to buy special air conditioners made for casement windows or use portable. For me, this was a problem because I had small air conditioners from my last apartment that I was unable to use.
