Disgusting

Years at this apartment: 2006 - 2007

I have been living in Briarwood for almost a year now. I live in a loft style apartment. At first I thought it was a nice place, but it was not long before I started to realize that my assumptions were wrong.

We moved in in November of 2006, and it was great until we got the first electricity bill. It was 250.00. The electricity bill continued to rise throughout the winter months despite the fact that we tried to conserve our heat, mostly keeping it at a cool 65 degrees. We also went as far as buying energy star light bulbs, and even weatherstripping for the front door. It seems like the gigantic hotel style heater/air conditioner is an energy hound. Our front door is hung askew so it is drafty, and although the exposed brick is nice to look at it doesnt seem to retain heat well. Also, we had multiple leaks in our apartment...not just a little leak either, I am talking about water streaming down our walls. One night I woke up to water dripping on my face while I was sleeping. Needless to say, I called maintenance right then. A guy came to the apartment, took a couple polaroids, and told me to sleep on the couch until they could fix the problem. It took at least 6 or 7 phone calls to Maintenance before they came and put a TARP on our flipping roof.
Our apartment is still leaky to this day.

Sooo, lets talk about Summer. It started to get hot early this year, and I thought we should open some windows and get some air circulating in the apartment. That is when I realized that there is only ONE window that opens in our apt. So, if you are hot you have to turn on the AC. Again, our electric bill skyrocketed. Also, we have house millipedes and silverfish. We even had a roach problem (I have lived in multiple apartments before this one, and I didnt even know what a roach looked like)
I am a clean freak, so this one really surprised me. I had to put bait traps in my kitchen and bathroom in order to resolve the problem. We never had a mouse problem, but if I saw one I would'nt be surprised.

As far as the grounds are concerned, they are pretty well taken care of. I hate our parking situation (only having one space). The outside walkways could be better lit at night too. The lights are very dim.

I truly wish I had read these reviews before moving in. I would never recommend this place to anyone and needless to say, We wont be renewing our lease for a second year.
