Years at this apartment: 2002 - 2004
I lived here for two years, and it was one of the biggest mistakes I have ever made. At first glance, I thought this building would be great. It's gorgeous facade, it's lush courtyard. . .to the eyes, it's a masterpiece. Once you start living here, though, and paying the (get this) $1500 rent, you soon realize that the building's exterior is nothing more than a lure. The carpets inside the apartments are old, stained, and poorly installed. The best part about this place is, when I visited with my husband, we were shown an apartment that was emptied. New appliances, new flooring, new carpets, new cabinets and doors. We were told that the apartment that was available was still occupied, and we couldn't see it -- but it was "exactly" like the one we had seen. But it wasn't. We first saw our apartment two weeks before the move in date. The appliances were old, the carpetting, tattered, and we were utterly disappointed (not to mention that the apartment smelled like a cross between Indian food and ass.) The plumbing is disgusting -- I've had more enjoyable experiences using outhouses. The noise is a major issue. The walls are thin, and entire conversations in the apartment next door are audible. The management is uncaring and unresponsive. Our blinds were inoperable when we moved in, and, despite our addressing the issue with management, were still inoperable when we vacated. The best is, the management hogs the residents facilities (gym and laundry rooms, more specifically.) Most of the people who live in the building commute to work in New York, and often times do not return until very late. So, doing laundry is usually reserved for the weekends, and everyone crowds in there to wash clothes. The management, even though they are there, in the building, all day, also feel it neccessary to do laundry on the weekends. But that's not the worst part: They do laundry, but then forget about it. There were at least 20 different times when I would find myself waiting for a washer or dryer for 30 minutes to an hour, because someone hadn't returned to finish what they started, only to discover that the person I was waiting on was the same person who shows apartments to incoming renters (who, if I could catch them outside, I would always warn to look elsewhere.) So, in short, the management folks care. . .wait, they don't care about the people who live there. The gym equipment is ancient. The winters are cold. What else' Oh, during the winter, if it snows, consider yourself screwed. The walkways are never shoveled before 1 PM, and the parking lots are never plowed until days later. So, you'll spend at least two hours trying to dig your car out, if it snows more than five inches. And the plow company they hire will come in, clear paths for cars, but kick up all of the snow in piles that are left behind any car that is in the parking lot. Some cars would sit in the lot for weeks, until the snow melted a little. If you get a package delivered to your apartment, and the management signs for it, you may never know, because they never leave you a notice of any kind that you have a package. I once, on a hunch, went to the management office to see if I had received any deliveries, to find three boxes; one had been sitting there for three weeks. If you want to save yourself considerable aggravation, look somewhere else. Clocktower Close is the last place I would ever recommend to anyone. I wouldnt even wish this place on my enemies.
