Do not rent at Merritt River

I am so glad to finally be out of this apartment complex and I cannot in good conscience recommend it to anyone. The worst problem is the incredibly rude and incompetent office staff (maintainence staff is acceptable). I have never in my life dealt with staff such as those who work in the office here. Maya, the office manager, sets a terrible tone and has no business being in her position. I encountered no less than at least a dozen other renters here who felt the same way. It's not uncommon to receive nasty notes slipped under doors by office staff and rules to be changed mid-lease.

The parking situation is awful unless you want to pay for a reserved spot. The free parking (only available on certain levels) is virtually non-existant during the week due to the fact that the office building next door is allowed to take up so many of the spots. The very bottom floor of the parking garage is filled with new (dealer') vehicles from who knows where. People are incredibly disrespectful and take up 2 parking spots despite the fact that enough free spots are hard to come by. As someone else here said, recently we were told that if you leave your car more than 2 days (in a free spot - which we are supposed to get with our lease), your car will be towed. So much for going away for a long weekend unless you pay for one of their reserved spots. It's just a really bad situation.

And, there is no feeling of security and safety in the parking garage. There are numerous break-ins and cars getting keyed. Merritt River will not hire a security person to drive the garage nor will they install security cameras with views down the garage rows so that the vehicles can be seen.

Be forewarned that unless you get a patio side apartment, you will have to listen to the train come by several times daily since the apartment sits right by the tracks. But then, if you are on the patio side during the summer, the patio and pool are very noisy (especially the patio after 11pm at night). Some people don't seem to understand that many people have to go to sleep at a decent hour and the night staff does nothing to quiet down the patio revelers. It can be very frustrating.

The rent is expensive and definitely not worth the hassle of dealing with bad staff, lack of security and poor parking. It would be best to rent elsewhere.
