Things you should know.......

I checked out Merritt River and there are things you should know before signing a lease.
1) The train blows its'whistle on oneside of the building at an intersection. It is extremely loud and travels until midnight and starts at 6am. There is also construction going on behind the building.
2)There is a $400.00 yearly fee to use the pool and computers(mandatory). Pool is open in the summer and computer room has 3 marginal computers. I had never heard of paying for these services.Gym is one you would see at a Holiday Inn. If you work out you still need to buy a gym membership at a local club to get a full workout.
3) They boast about the covered parking. You cannot leave your car for more than 2 days or it will be towed. You must therefore pay for a space. That was never mentioned to me until I asked. So much for going away for long weekends or traveling for work. The garage is also leased out to the building next door so limiting parking. They get the best spaces on P1 and part of P2.Tenants park on the bottom.
4)Hefty price for animals-$600.00 per plus $50.00/month.
5) All corporate housing and less expensive 2 bedrooms as well as many other units face the loud side of the tracks.
The leasing agent told me "some people like the train and request it".....please!Corporate housing takes up 40% of the building. The other 60% goes to those that don't know better.
6) The complex is very nice when you walk in. Maya and Merideth were both helpful, but did not tell me alot of things I found out on this page. I confirmed everything with them. Since I met Maya only once I cannot give an assement of how she does her job.
7) There is no security. I drove into the garage, went into the elevator and toured the building myself prior to going to the leasing office. Anyone can get in and an unsecure parking garage at night is not good for men or women.
8) If you want to hang artwork in your apartment you must pay maintenece $25.00/hr to do it for you. They mentioned something about ruining the concrete walls. It seems there is a fee for everything.
I could write more, but these are the specifics you should know prior to committing yourself. If you are new to CT look in Stamford. Very close, lots to do and beautiful apartments downtown.
