Garden-style was fine for me

Years at this apartment: 2005 - 2006
I lived here for a year and really had no problems to report. The apartment was in good shape and I don't remember needing a maintenance call other than for something basic when I first moved in. I lived on the third floor of the garden-style apartments, which seems to be a whole different world compared to the towers. One difference is that the garden-style apartments are only 2 and 3 bedroom places, so maybe they attract more families and such. Anyway, I hated having to lug furniture up and down the stairs, but it wasn't the end of the world. I loved that they provided free heat. My apartment wasn't well insulated against extreme temps - not a problem in the winter, but it got really hot in the summer. I don't leave my a/c running all the time, though. Since there wasn't anyone above me, I didn't have to worry about noise. On the whole, I didn't hear my neighbors unless they were in the hall or if the guy next door had his mega-bass kicked up like he did every now and then. I'd say that even though people weren't full-out neighborly, they were generally quiet and respectful where I lived.
As for the management, I didn't really have to deal with them. I knew when I signed the lease that there would be penalties for breaking it, so I stayed for a year and then took a new job out of state. I think there was an extra $100/mo charge for going month-to-month after that first year, which seemed a bit steep to me, but I think it's fairly common.
Overall, I had no complaints. The apartment was fine and while Rocky Hill isn't the hotbed of all that's going on, it is really convenient to a lot of stores, the interstate, and Hartford. I liked that it was a quiet place.
