I read the first review that read "Staff is unresponsive in emergency situations. Due to a recent fire, tenants were temporarily displaced. During this displacement, staff ignored all phone calls and inquiries. They were not cooperative at all. Tenants were initially told that costs during displacement would be reimbursed. After the fact, tenants were told that money would not be reimbursed." and I wanted to comment. I lived at Elms during the fire of 2002. I was also told the same thing (that all costs racked up while we were displaced would be refunded to us). I had renter's insurance, and I was told not to claim anything, because Elms Common would pay for everything (because the fire was in a common area and not in an individual apartment). Then AFTER we all moved back into our apartments, we were told otherwise. We were told that we had misunderstood and were mistaken. Shirley (the PM at the time) told us "We would never have said that" even though numerous tenants remember being told that. Also, while we were displaced from our apartments, we tried to call daily to check on the status of things .. like when we would be able to move back in. Phone calls went unanswered. No one called us (even though they had asked us at the time of the fire -- when we were all gathered in the club house -- for our cell phone numbers and contact numbers, so they could call us when it was safe to move back in). No one ever called me. When I finally showed up to see what was going on, Shirley said "You could have moved back in 2 days ago." Well, nobody informed me of that! And nobody returned my calls! Tenants were left in the dark about the whole incident. I know of many many others who were upset about not being told the truth about things. I was very displeased at the way this situation was handled.
