Starting to look elsewhere...

My lease is almost up and I can't wait! On the surface, Newbury is very nice and appealing. But once you live here and scratch below that surface, you see all of the problems. It's very noisy, the laundry rooms are a disgrace, you pay a lot and you don't get much in return. One of my friends recently moved into a complex in Norwalk and it has cement walls that surround the apartments. You don't even know you have neighbors its so quiet. I can't say the same about Newbury. There's also a brand new complex in Stamford with cement walls as well... granite counters, balconies off every apartment and laundry in every apartment too! Newbury's laundry rooms need to go! Newbury is just so old. Take a walk down the hallways... it's like a nursing home! I find it funny the people who say they would like to buy here. I can't imagine doing that. The apartments are so boring. There's even plastic molding that runs around the baseboards of all the rooms. You can find worse, I know, but management thinks they have some sort of gold mine here and do nothing to improve what really is a sub-par, aging building. Not terrible, but you can find better!

I agree with some points in this review. The complex is old and also noisy, probably as a result. But since I have quiet neighbors, it's primarily traffic noise which is an issue. The windows are simply too flimsy to keep the noise of a busy street out. I think there may be a confusion about distance. It's vertical distance, not 6-feet wide walls. This isn't a romanic fortress. And flimsy divider walls are an issue in all apartment buildings. There are never concrete walls separating neighbors. In fact, having lived in 2 other (and newer) apartment complexes, I can report that dividing walls here are actually better than average. True, my neighbors are quiet, but I can make a comparison on the rare occasion that they are not. Still, apartments are noisy. You can hear every single car drive by. And there are a lot of cars driving by...
