It's Got It's Good and It's Bad....

Ok, here's the scoop. I lived here for a year. I shared a 3 bedroom apartment with 2 other girls. The place was HUGE! Awesome for size. And rent was competitive with any other place. The floors were nice (hard wood kept well), and they re-paint and give it a good scrub down between tenants. Note: The 1 bedroom apartments we heard are horribly small and oddly shaped. So you can't live there comfortably, unless you are really sharing a 2 bedroom or larger.
However, I will say.....the maintenance lead from our building was HORRIBLE (and yes, as of last I heard he's still there). He thinks he's important (which if he actually fixed problems rather than gave attitude, maybe he would be!) He is one of the most pompous, inefficient and rudest people I've had to deal with. We always hoped we'd get the on-call person who would be from one of the other complexes ...the other building maintenance guys were always more pleasant from our experience. However, nothing maintenance-wise gets fixed well. It gets "temporarily fixed" until it falls apart again. It took our apartment about 5 months to get a new toilet (one of the toilets in our apartment didn't work, and would break on a daily basis ...and we had to show the leasing office every workman's paper from prior work to prove it ...it just became a tug-of-war with upper management in the leasing office until I think they finally just replaced the toilet to appease us). But with that office, it's always one big argument. Our other toilet always had problems, too. The A/C was really weak and old ...we had to put weights on top of some of them to keep them from rattling out heat or A/C. The A/C just didn't kick up enough ...especially in the larger rooms.
More about the complex in general: there are also some frequent fire alarms that go off which can get annoying. Maintenance comes in to do random inspections (which I didn't like ...felt like an invasion of privacy if you ask me ...if we have a problem, I'll let you know ...otherwise, what are you inspecting for'') The walls are thick, but if your next door neighbors play loud music you will hear it. Parking is good if you get a big enough spot in the garage, but you pay for it. Parking is expensive, and there is no visitor parking, except whatever spots you find on the street (good luck!) I know that over the past two years, the parking garage fee has gone up. And they like to raise prices every year for everything ...a little too much if you ask me.
The leasing office is not very friendly, very business like ...kind of like they are missing the "people skills" which you would expect to be associated with their job description. Not very passionate ...you get the feel that they are just going through the rounds. They will tell you that if you don't accept an apartment immediately upon seeing it, that you might lose it because they are showing it to two or three more people after you, and they will tell you they might already have an interested party. And if you are thinking about trying to get a better rent deal, think again ...they don't budge with price one bit.
Overall, the experience at The Townhouses was a good one (except for maintenance and some problems with upper management at the leasing office). I can vouch that the 3BR is really spacious, and pretty quiet. Safe. Not bad, and nice central location ...but overpriced and they know it. Look into other places before committing. Really bad plumbing ...tiny washers/dryers in the unit that barely work. Fitness center is old, dirty and gross. I saw cockroaches in the washer/dryers room in the basement (but never any in my apartment, so that goes to their credit). Don't get any packages sent to the complex ...unless you like lost and missing things.
