BEWARE THERE IS A VANDALISM ISSUE HERE

All prospective tenants should be well informed, because you will not be by management, that there is a serious issue with theft at Hillside Ghetto. As of May 08 there have been car break in's, car parts stolen, and theft of valuables from cars. This is still continuing as of June 08. This was also an issue back in July 07. It also looks like vandalism is not just a problem with Hillside Ghetto but also with the other apartment communities in the area because Vernon police are actually taking it seriously - car theft is generally only taken under serious investigation by police when it is occurring frequently. Rather than management taking a proactive, respectful, and caring approach to tenants by warning them to take extra precautions, management is not informing current tenants and even saying there is no vandalism issue- LIES! If no vandalism is occurring at Hillside Ghetto then why do the police have records of a break-in in May' And why do they have a recent investigation underway as of June 08' And why were there signs posted around the property in summer 07 warning tenants of recent break-ins' Can't wait to get outta here when my lease is up in a couple of months!!!!!!!

I've been here for 3 years, and there has NEVER been a problem until now. Unfortunately, it's hard to figure out who is doing these things unless they are caught. The one that happened in May was, as I was told, someones hub caps being stolen, nothing was actually broken into until the one that just happened.
Just keep your car locked and make sure anything valuable is taken out of it. It's not that it's the apartments fault that some moron it running around breaking into cars - what can they do about it but tell people anyway. I've had the manager many times tell me that even they don't have it happen a lot, that it can happen if people are given the chance (i.e., not locking their doors). As flopper07 said, it's common sense.

I'm going to have to agree with the original poster. This is much more frequent than a simple 2 incidents. I have lived at Hillside Terrace for several years and it seems that every summer there are break-ins to vehicles. My car was broken into in July of 06. I informed management of the situation and nothing was done. Several other residents also had break ins around the same time, however I do not know if they were reported to management. I'm aware of at least a handful of people who have insisted that the parking lots be better lit, or that a police officer or security personelle be on watch, but these changes never happened. Then, again last summer (June 07) my car was broken into again. At that point, notices were put up, as a few people had reported break-ins to management. added security and safety, however, was still not addressed. I also happen to know the person who had their "hub caps" stolen. it was not hub caps. it was the car's wheels. tires, rims and all. the car was up on blocks! In addition to vehicle vandalizm, the electrical system is extremely dated. every time I turn on my air conditioner above the lowest possible setting, it trips the breaker. if that weren't enough, the hot water is routinely out, especially in the winter. the only reason I've stayed as long as I have is because it is so hard to find a place that allows me to have my dog. thank god I'm buying a house soon, because I can't wait to get out!

To all posters,
I agree completely that something truly has to done in regards to the recent thefts. Though we can not put the blame on the apartment complex or its management. I am currently a resident and besides the recent breaks and a few other minor issues am satisfied. I have many suggestions that maybe will be taken seriously. We REALLY need better lighting in the parking lots as well as maybe camaras to view the parking lot. It's true that if a theft has a chance to steal they will. So why don't we do something to deter it as a whole. Security camaras, better lighting, better communication between tenants as well staff, and if it continues them hiring a security guard to roam the parking lot. These are fairly inexpensive ways that help deter deliquents from returning to their easy stealing grounds. So this may or may not help. But one last thing to the people who use this website as a childish blog, GROW UP.

Hillside terrace is a pleasant place back away from the main street. It's nice they accept animals too. One of the only places in town. Plenty of parking. The apartments are fairly nice for what you pay and the management has always responded to maintenance requests and even suggestions. It's not a house but more than adequate for an apartment

If you paid any attention, or ever bothered to go talk to the manager, they are addressing the vandalism issue. They are workin on installing more lights and have somebody patrolling the park lots 3 times a night (at 11:30pm, 1:30am, and 3:30am). Seems to me like they are taking action. If that isn't enough response for you then maybe you need to move into an assisted living home.

The original poster is absolutely correct. This place sucks. Run don't walk.

Great Flopper we're getting some action now, but there wasn't any action almost a month ago back when I posted on 6/3. I applaud the action being taken now but that doesn't change what I wrote on 6/3 now does it? And MORE IMPORTANTLY its been going on since 2006 - did you even bother to read the response on 6/9?? Responding 2 years later is lazy in my book.

I've been reading & following the responses here since the beginning, sometimes laughing usually being quite disturbed. I was going to stay out of it But I have to put in my 2 cents now. First and foremost the original post and the 2nd response are absolutely positively dead on. There is indeed a vandalism issue here and it has indeed been going on since 2006. Sure the vandalism is not the manager's fault and I don't think the original poster was saying that but yes management has both done nothing (until now?) and also lied about it on occasion. (Oh wait because I'm complaining that must mean I'm the person who's car was broken into right? Give me a break! Besides the point if you're car is broken into its only your right to complain! And Other people can complain too and have been for 2 years now). Secondly to the responder on 6/24 thank you for sharing on a public website what times of the nights somebody will be patrolling our property. You didn't think that out properly did you? Now anybody can come on here and see what times *not* to come here *if* they were so inclined. Its a stretch sure but it just doesn't sit well with me that you did that. Thirdly it would just be nice if the manager would update us on what is being done to address security/vandalism like in the form of a notice/newsletter- why do I have to go talk to them to find out? I don't know about you but I work and the only office hours are when people are working, there's no night or weekend hours that I'm aware. Fourth- like I said I've been reading all the responses going on and I clearly remember flop saying that 2 incidents didn't qualify an issue... there's been way more than 2 and funny how you point out the things that the manager is now doing- lights/security patrolling I guess that does equal a vandalism issue then doesn't it? And last but without a doubt not least I have indeed noticed more lights and i only hope more will go up because if anyone thinks those crappy $10 walmart lights that were just put up is going to help anything youre sadly mistaken.
