I have lived at Springville Mill for more than a year and remain pleased with my decision to move here. I recently renewed my lease for a second full year.
I love the appearance of the building, the high ceilings, the exposed brick walls, the large windows, the modern interiors, the the quiet brook that passes by the front of the building, and the plentiful electrical outlets. I like that the building has quiet wooded surroundings, and yet is a short walk to Rockville Center and within a 5-minute drive to several grocery stores, coffeehouses, and restaurants which include Italian, Chinese, Indian, and New York-style deli offerings.
The building's facilities are in good condition -- elevators, emergency lights, fire and security alarms, laundry facilities, and ventilation are ample and all work fine. I have requested minor repairs on occasion, and they were handled swiftly.
Regarding the complaints of other reviewers:
1. I have seen a dog "accident" only once and it was cleaned up quickly. (I don't own a dog.)
2. Like the other mill housing in the region, the walls between apartments here are thin and so it's important for residents to keep noise to a minimum, and most do. I have not noticed any persistent noise problems.
3. I have found the security guard to be polite and professional. Unlike other mill complexes in the area, Springville Mill has suffered no crime problems.
My complaints about overall building issues are minor:
1. The hallways could be better-decorated.
2. Most of the fitness center's equipment is about 10-15 years old -- very dated by today's standards. But the pool and patio are very nice.
3. There is no option for covered parking. I have found the open-air parking to be adequate, however, even during/after snowstorms.
Apartment interior facilities such as electrical plugs, faucets, hot water, cable TV, phone wiring, bathroom and kitchen facilities are all very modern and in excellent working order. Closets are spacious -- my 2-BR apartment has two walk-in closets, one for the master bedroom and one for storage. Kitchen counter and cabinet space is certainly adequate, though "generous" might be a stretch.
The mill's large old windows allow for nice breezes and reduce the need for air conditioning in summer. In winter, my heating bills have been reasonable.
Overall, while it's not a luxury resort, I believe Springville Mill is a very good deal for quiet individuals with pets who seek a unique style of loft/mill housing in this particular price range.

I have lived in Springville for 7 years and this review is spot on. I have seen more than one dog accident in my time here. Most of the time its taken care of in less than 30min. Every couple of years someone new moves in and doesnt respect others and doesnt clean up after there pets. But with so many people in one place your bound to have a few bad apples.
With regards to the security guard he has been nothing but awesomoe. I have never had a problem with him and more often than not he has helped me. He has been there to jump start my car, let my child in to the apt. when she forgot her keys.
I have and will continue to recomend springville mill to anyone looking for a nice place to live in the vernon area.

i've read the reviews and they go from terrible to fantastic. although i don't live here (but have wanted to for several years) it sounds like 'racist rick' takes his job seriously and doesn't put up with any bull. when and if i go to the office for an application, i plan to ask around the building about rick and the other info i've read in the reviews and see what kind of response i get. no matter how difficult rick can make my life, the drug dealers in my building have been ruthless. i know how to keep my head down and avoid trouble but my neighbor was raped just weeks ago and it's time for me to get the hell out of hartford. all of these reviews tend to confuse me. i wish i could see some type of consistency but all i see is: i love it or i hate it. there doesn't seem to be any in between. thanks for your time.

I have lived here 3 years and it's not that bad. You have a huge building with many different people and all walks of life. Not everyone is going to be satisfied. People come on here to write nasty reviews as a way of revenge because of their own actions. If everyone follows the rules, PAYS THEIR RENT and respects the other people that live in the building then you shouldn't have a problem. It's not the best place to live but it's also not the worst place to live either. I have been here for three years so it can't be so bad.

I wrote the original review above. To be specific: Rick is --------American, and I'm a middle-class white tenant. While parking my car in the evening, I have seen Rick interacting in a friendly fashion with numerous building residents outside the front entrance. I haven't seen any indication of hostility or racism. Maybe I'm naive, but I'm left to wonder what his critics were doing to merit his intervention.
