Me ant he wife have been here for 3 years now.
I must say, I can sympathize with other reviews, but I think they exaggerate/ exacerbate the problem.
The office manager's name is Kathy. She is strict and she tolerates no fools. She is also very fair, and if you are a good tenant, she's good to you. She never plays favorites. I respect that. If you do dumb stuff, expect to get a phone call soon enough.
The owners do raise the rent each year...except the first year. From what I've been told by Kathy, they do jack the price on people who need to go. They take particular interest on WHO lives there and even do background checks on occassion. I know for a fact that she combs through Police Blotters looking for tenants who offend. Nothing racist or even sexist, but again, they don't tolerate fools and eagerly enjoy professionals who pay their bills and live responsibly.
As far as STAY AWAY from the dumpsters...I concur. You don't want it if its next to the dumpster. STINKS & Dump truck does honk for you to move...or you get a phone call.
The snow policy needs some work. For most renters, its fine, but not everyone has a typical 9-5 work schedule. Some of us travel extensively, wihtout our car. They will leave a nasty message for you without a doubt. I HATE NASTY MESSAGES from KATHY. It reminds me of my mom screeching at me. In that regards, she needs to get a grip on life...but...oh well. Thats my personal stuff I suppose.
Neighbors are quiet and leave you alone. You could easily go years without speaking thrice to a neighbor 2 doors down unless you WANT to. The walls are practically SOUND proof, seriously. Quite unbelievable, actually. Occassionally sounds wafes in from the windows or balcony, no more.
If you can, go for the newer buildings than the older. Woodbrook is fine.
As for the high turnover...yes...very much so...but that could be a function of the economy here in CT. Professials have become more and more transient. Also, those that live here in all honesty are people looking to buy a home in a few years cause they can SOON afford it. Lots of young couples, very very few kids. Not a few elderly who choose to sell their homes and enjoy the "renters life". So, yes, turnover is high. And yes..they weed people out over time.
Santini makes beautiful homes in the Vernon, Ellington area. These model apartments feel more like condos. It is spacious floor space wise. The storage areas are large and useful. Just far enough away from the rest of the world, but never inconvienent. EASY access to I-84. You really won't find much better...you can forget about comparing it to the luxury apartments. You get more for your money, IMO, here.
Good luck.
