I wouldn't recommend living at Southwind. I've lived there for over 2 years and only stayed while I looked to buy a home and didn't want to move again before buying a place. Southwind shows you a model unit but not the actual unit you're going to rent. I was told that the buildings are quiet as they were constructed out of steel in the 1970's. Nothing could be further from the truth! The floor squeek and crack with any movement. I've been sleeping with ear plugs ever since I moved in, it's nearly unbearable! The staff member told me my unit overlooked the pool but she wouldn't charge me extra for a pool view (I cannot see the pool, just the path leading to it). The common areas are dirty and rundown. I've seen a used condom in the parking lot, broken liquor bottles, and come home to windows broken out on the building after a resident had a fight. I had a mouse infestation that they tried to solve with a few sticky strips that never caught one mouse. There was mouse urine and droppings all over my apartment as a result. It wasn't until I asked them to block up holes in the ceilings and walls that the mice stopped getting in. Otherwise the staff was unconcerned and unwilling to take other steps to solve the problem. The pool is freezing cold even in July and there is a playscape next to it where mom's yell at their kids poolside. Management hands you a 13 page lease and burried inside is their ability to increase your rent if you go month to month. In the span of 3 months they increased me over 12%. I'm currently buying a place and can't wait to leave.
