I moved here last year to go to school from the west coast and it was the only place anywhere near new haven that I could afford. When I first got here I was a little freaked out, downtown waterbury looked scary and the neighbours seemed a tad scary themselves. Turns out downtown waterbury is actually getting alot better, definitely scary areas but some great parts too. Lots of parks and hiking and climbing too. Not much of a club scene, though they did open a new place a month ago thats very new yorkish, and a few good irish pubs, but the real nightlife is in new haven or hartford.
Anyway, theres actually alot of nice normal neighbours, a few college kids and some professional singles and couples, they just dont sit out on their front lawn all day so it takes awhile to find them. I wish they would seal up the fences by the park so people werent walking through all the time but for the folks who have dogs i guess its good to be able to walk to the park.
Plowing was okay except for one major snowstorm where i had to shovel my car out for two days. Not easy when youve never lived in snow before.
All in all, very nice, very big, very clean, very affordable.
