Great location, horrible maintenance

The building is in a great location, and is close to almost everything. Additionally, it is located in West Hartford, is 2 blocks away from Elizabeth park.

However, the management is extremely painful to deal with. Of course, some staff are better than others. Nancy in particular has been pretty good at resolving issues. However, in general, they promise that things will be taken care of etc, and seem to be very helpful with words, but when it actually comes down to doing something meaningful, I am yet to see any results.

The area ranges in safety. I thought the area was very safe when I moved in, but my car got stolen from the parking lot behind the apartment building. Also, dumpster-divers regularly go through the trash, so be careful and shred everything before you throw it out. I have seen police cars in the parking lot quite frequently, and a car being searched in the parking lot and some police officers in the building at least on three occasions. I do not know what for.

Additionally, the building management insists on all complaints in writing, and it is painful to write multiple followup letters to resolve one issue. They are also very resistant to the idea of getting skilled maintenance workers to do the job. For instance, we complained of a pest problem, and they put a pesticide gel on a lot of our food containers. When we complained about such an unprofessional application of pesticide, they said that the pesticide gel was non-toxic. (Who has heard of a non-toxic pesticide gel that can be consumed by humans'). Needless to say, this did not work. In spite of at least 3 written complaints during six months and numerous verbal complaints, they did not get a pest control professional to look at the problem. One of the reasons for getting out of the house was that you had to follow up on complaints repeatedly and that too in writing, (I work 80-90 hours a week and I don't have much time to run around writing letters to get things done from arrogant maintenance workers). Strange thing is that maintenance workers also complain about the management (saying that they don't give them the right tools for the job).

we were very happy for the first year being there. It just took around 2 years of things breaking apart, and the rental office not fixing things in the first attempt that caused us to leave. It's a great property with a solid construction in a great location, it's a pity that the management is doing little to keep it that way.
