An honest review

Your experience at Walden all depends on your expectations. Your typical resident is a UConn student: in the two bedroom apartments, you're typically going to find undergrads throwing parties (standard), up on the hill, you'll find everything from grad students to local residents. I'll briefly highlight what I thought was good and bad:

Good:

I really liked the manager of the property. The best thing to do is treat him with the respect you would treat anyone in his position, and he'll return that respect. The bottom line is that managing property is about managing money and risk. If you're late in your payments, your going to get hounded and rightly so. If you're a good tenant, odds are that your requests will be taken care of.

The cost is manageable, and that's a plus, but remember that you get what you pay for.

The location is a plus. It's not too far from campus.

The units are large. Lots of space.

Bad:

There is no air conditioning. This place will roast in the summer. I mean, we're talking so hot I thought I was suffering from river blindness. There were times that I had to lie down as still as possible in the middle of the room to keep cool and I still broke a sweat. To this day, my friends and I still laugh about the sauna I lived in. The apartments are too large to cool with a conventional window AC unit, unless you're willing to spring for something like 100,000 BTUs. No joke.

Lots of parties. If you're looking for peace and quiet, best look elsewhere, though it's better up on the hill.

The quality of the interior is suspect. IT's not a luxury apartment. IT's meant for college kids on a budget. Keep that in mind.

THe parking lot isn't lit very well, and often times you have to park a ways away from your unit.

The laundry facilities are tucked away in a basement that would give Scooby Doo reason to pass out.

The locks on the sliding glass door were scored, indicating that there had been a forced entry at some point (I don't know if it was by a drunk tenant who locked himself out, or some more malicious intruder). I didn't have any problems with theft or shady people lurking around (though a word of caution about letting random neighbors in when you first get there. I swear, the guy who lived upstairs from me was Kramer come to life).

My biggest complaint was my location. I was on the first floor. I guess Bigfoot and the local Yeti lived upstairs, cause it sounded like a rave club on weekends, which wasn't exactly cool.

All in all, I would say your decision should be based on your expectations. I was fairly desperate for a place to live when I got to Storrs, so take my commentary in the proper context.
