Good value, location, but lacking in some regards...

The location of the building is almost perfect -- convenient by train and car, near to a LOT of stuff on foot, but not on a cramped, crowded block. The rents are extremely reasonable given the size of the units, and the building's location. Some other posters have complained about noise -- my neighbors play VERY loud music (I hear it in the hallway) but I never hear it in my apartment. I live right above the loading dock, whose noises I hear if I'm awake and thinking about it (otherwise, it's quiet, and I'm a light sleeper). The kitchens here are crap -- mini-fridges that don't freeze effectively, very small counters. And there is a pest problem. In my first week I had a mouse; I've had numerous roaches and other insects and the exterminators haven't come yet, even though I've requested twice. In all other regards, though, the management has been extremely helpful. Another plus is a recently installed "business center" with free high speed internet and printing (and a fax machine) available for use by residents. All in all, it's a good place to live, especially if you're starting out in DC. But there are surely other places that are better...
