Having recently moved from a western city this was way below expectations. It is loud, full of cockroaches and the fuzes burn out if you have two electrical appliances at once -- say the toaster and the microwave. Added to that, if you live on the inside of the building (facing the garbage compactor) the garbage man shows up at 5:30 am on random weekdays to wake up the neighborhood with what sounds like a building collapsing outside your window. If you live on the outside (facing Massachussetts Ave) you have to put up with sirens at all hours of the night, not to mention they test the fire alarm seemingly every week. I won't elaborate on the homeless folks peeing in the stairways or panhandling in the parking garage.
